Morten Thomassen today looks at the song that ended in 4th place in the Norwegian Eurovision 2023 final. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwwegian to English.
Elsie managed to come in exactly the same place as last year, namely 4th place.
This despite the fact that many thought that this year’s song “Love You In A Dream” was a notch better than last year’s song.
I think that the competition this year was a little bit better than last year, so in that sense she should probably be satisfied with the place she got.
She came in 4th place with the jury and 6th place with the people, but she was lucky and stayed in the 4th place she had after the juries have had their say.
This is because the votes cast in the mid-table on the results list had deviations by only a few points.
This was supposed to end up being the most toned-down song of the evening and thus she should have an advantage over the songs that were more “noisy”, but this one clearly did not make any difference.
Elsie has a distinctive voice which, as far as I can understand, some people might not like, I love it and the fragility of her voice fits in super well.
She has a lot of strength in her vocals, so in that sense this was a safe voyage.
Possibly many thought that the whole performance was a bit too dark and that was perhaps what drew down both jury groups.
In my opinion, Elsie Bay has what it takes to win the MGP once, maybe it’s the total package she needs to find out, it may not have been optimal some of the times we’ve seen her.
