Finally we reached the end of the ABBA songs.
Thank you for the music, the songs I’m singing
Thanks for all the joy they’re bringing
Well, we had to end the whole ABBA saga off with this song, it is such a classic. Thank you ABBA for all the music and the songs we are constantly singing.
The question is name 3 Eurovision songs you constantly feel like singing
For me it is Cliff Richard and Congratulations every time I see someone is having a birthday. Then Mouth and Macneal with I see a star, and often it is the Afrikaans lyrics of it. Lastly Nicole’s Ein bisschien frieden, after all I have many versions of it (53 in total) and in 21 different languages.
Oh wow! We’ve finished it off with a difficult one!!
When it comes to belting out eurosongs I find, the big ballads to be a whole lot of fun! I feel so sorry for anyone sitting at the traffic lights beside me… Here goes
Unsubstantial Blues from Hungary 2007, particulary the high gravelly note. It’s gold!
Gravity from Ukraine also gets my lungs open! Beautiful zlata was spectacular, I on the other hand, am not
Lastly what if we, from the glorious ciara of Malta. All of her tracks are fantastic, but this one gets my head bobbling, and that final key change, sends that rippling tingle up my spine. I doubt however, any of my renditions would do that, more like shattering glass!
Thank you Roy for doing this. It’s been a lot of fun and gives me something to look forward to when having that after work coffee and chill out 🙂

Actually, for me, the stage for singing is the bathroom… And again, it’s not easy to name only three, as I sing there only what just accidentally comes to my mind. Maybe these three are the most often:
Anmary – Beautiful Song
Krista Siegfried – Marry Me
The Ark – Worrying Kind
but today morning, it was Moustache, last year’s French entry
Tamás, I have to say you have excellent taste in Eurovision music. I listen to The Ark almost every day and have very fond memories of both hearing Krista sing in Malmö and meeting her in Copenhagen.
Adelle, I also really excited about the first time to meet you, you expressed more times that we are on the wavelength 🙂
I say thank you for the music….. I also wanted to say how I have thoroughly enjoyed this ABBA related discussion over the 24 songs chosen. I love hearing people’s opinions and it makes me feel we get a bit of a glimpse into each other doing this.
I say thank you to the following Eurovision songs….
For a song to elevate my mood and give me a smile… And I sing along to very poorly… Albania’s Kejsi Tola with Carry Me In Your Dreams.
When I am in a very lovey mood, Didrik Solli-Tangen with My Heart Is Yours always melts me… And again, I can “sing” along rather poorly.
And the third, (so many to choose from) I would say, to get some aggression out, France’s Amandine with L’Enfer et Moi gets me screaming along and throwing myself about brilliantly.
Thank you for the music indeed….
Luc glad you enjoyed the ABBA posts – I did as well. Must find something to follow this up
Yippeee I got it right! I am a geeennniiiusssss!
Me, I’m a sucker for a good eurovision dance track. Perhaps embarrassingly for me, one of my favourite songs that I love to sing (perhaps because it annoys my husband so much) is “I love Belarus” from 2011 – I have no idea why but for some reason that has proved to be a real earworm (I think it was because it was so eurovision-tastic – Zena warrior princess costumes, flame throwers, key change, nonsensical lyrics – the whole nine yards)!
I also love Be My Guest – Gaetana (including making the trumpet sounds) for similar reasons.
My final song is a slight change in tone – I am absolutely ADDICTED to “Love Injected” by Aminata from Latvia this year. My neighbours must be sick of hearing me squawk it out at volume 11 (i’ll tell you what its not an easy song to sing. Not that I let it stop me!)
I also like BELARUS – actually 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013 their songs were in my top 5. 2014 and 2015 they had songs not to my liking
I love that Gaetana song. It was easily my favorite from that year. Drag queens everywhere should be lip-synching that one.
Oddly enough, “I Love Belarus” is in my top 25 songs (according to my iTunes library). Guess I liked it more than I admitted.
My top three that I sing all the time:
Everyway that I can – Serteb Erener
Let’s Get Happy – Lou
My Number One – Elena Paparizou
So hard to only list three!
At least one RALPH SIEGEL song
I would listen to Hera Björk sing Je ne sais quoi any day of the week, closely followed by Bobbysocks and La Det Swinge. But the song I most often have on a loop is Eythor Ingi from Iceland in 2013 singing Ég á líf.
Living in LA, we have lots of chances to sing as we sit in traffic in our cars. I am guided by whatever is in my CD player, but currently I have been driving along listening to a Europop collection I have made, and on it are three Eurovision songs.
1. Tornero – from Romania 2006. An all-around great pop dance hit!
2, Je T’Adore – from Belgium 2006. Kate Ryan had a real winning song, although her performance didn’t even get her to the finals.
3. It Hurts / Det Gör Ont – from Sweden 2005. Lena Philipsson is a national heroine of Swedish pop music, and this song is truly one of her best and most memorable.
After a hard day at work I come home and sing these three songs and somehow everything feels better!
“Volare, oh oh. Cantare, ohohoho…Viva Maria, Viva Victoria, Aphroditeee. Viva la Diva, Viva Victoria, Cleopatraaa… My, my, at Waterloo Napoleon did surrender. Oh yeah, and I have met my destiny in quite a similar way.”
Nel Blu Dipinto Di Blu (Volare) by Domenico Modugno (Italy 1958) – this song can fit any moment really.
Diva by Dana International (Israel 1998) – quintessential Eurovision, still sounds modern and an anthem for tolerance.
Waterloo by ABBA (Sweden 1974) – Muriel’s Wedding is my favourite movie. Thank you ABBA for the music.
“When I lived in Porpoise Spit, I used to sit in my room for hours and listen to ABBA songs. But since I’ve met you and moved to Sydney, I haven’t listened to one ABBA song. That’s because my life is as good as an ABBA song. It’s as good as Dancing Queen.”
I listen to a lot of Eurovision songs, and usually sing along (when nobody is around). But if I had to pick just three, I think I would go with:
1. Ivi Adamou – La La Love (Cyprus – Eurovision 2012) – An upbeat, lively song. Makes me want to dance around the kitchen when I’m making dinner. Also a very cool “Sleeping Beauty” video.
2. Krista Siegfried – Marry Me (Finland – Eurovision 2013) – Such a fun song and a great video. Very upbeat and energetic. And I loved her controversial kiss at the end of her live performance.
3. Sanna Nielsen – Undo (Sweden – Eurovision 2014) – A beautiful, powerful, amazing song. Sometimes when I’ve had a rough day, I turn this up loud and lose myself in it.
I’m highly suggestible, so now I have Undo (Sanna Nielsen, Sweden 2014) running through my head as it’s the last entry I see above.
But every year, there seems to be a song that I constantly hit repeat for. One year it was Iceland’s No Prejudice–that chant stuck in my head for months after.
This year, I also watched most of the videos, so I found some of the video content highly repeatable. I think I played Golden Boy (Israel) a LOT, and sometimes that song becomes an earworm I cannot let go of.
My favorite thing though is when I’m in the car or a store and I hear a song like Walking on Sunshine or Waterloo and I know that it got its start at Eurovision.
I thank ABBA for the music and thank Eurovision for making the music my passion. It’s really hard to select only three songs but here I go:
3. Eres tú: This song is an anthem for me. It’s sang in every karaoke party here in Colombia.
2. Molitva: I love this masterpiece and always is one of the most played on my lists. I don’t know Serbian, but it’s not necessary, I just feel the music and let my soul get deep into this song.
1. Tu te reconnaîtras: I’ve always loved “la chanson française” and this is my favorite Luxemburgish entry. I just hallucinated last May when we had Anne-Marie David live at the Eurocafe.
I do thank Abba for the music. I remember when they came out to Australia, but I was living in Brisbane at the time and they didn’t come to play in our city, and my parents couldn’t afford to go to Sydney, even if we could have got a ticket at the time.
It’s hard to bring it down to just 3! When my playlist (often) plays a song from Eurovision, I’m always singing along (ok, I only leave the songs I want on my playlist). Can I mention 6 (i know, it’s double!) that come to my mind that I just love to sing along to (and in the car, and I don’t care who’s watching).
1. Change – Hotel FM (Romania) – it’s just such a catchy tune with a message.
2. The Secret is Love – Nadine Bellar (Austria) – Such a beautiful voice and a beautiful song.
3. Life – Tose Proeski (FYOM?) – Such talent, and such a lovely song with such a great meaning – Life is for living.
4. Still Standing – Roman Lobb (Germany) – I love this guy’s voice. I have other songs from him. He’s great!
5. No Prejudice – Pollapönk (Iceland) – Such a great great message that should be taught in all schools imho. Such a happy song!
6. A cheque pas – Jonaton Cerrada (France) – ok to be fair, I have this one that he’s sung in english and it’s fabulous.
Of course, everyone mentions another song, and I’m like, yeah, that too.. There will be ones I’m not so keen on of course, as there will be with everyone, but with so many songs around, it’s easy to find one you will just love!
Well, this last challenge is a doozy. Every Eurovision leaves me with weeks of earworms, but I’d have to say I love singing NATATI LAH CHAYAI (Israel, 1974) by one of my favorite groups, Poogy (Kaveret), such a fun song with clever lyrics, which are their signature.
At the other end of the time spectrum, I just love TONIGHT AGAIN, this year’s Australian entry, which just blew me away. I can’t count how much I listened to it over and over this year, and it makes me just want to get up and dance (and sing).
I love the silly songs so WADDE HADDE DUDDE DA and BAILA EL CHIKI CHIKI compete for that last spot, but I have to give it to ABANIBI! Just infectious!
Richard our taste is poles apart. CHIKI CHIKI occupies bottom spot of all euro entries for me and WADDE HADDE is on 5th spot on my all time hates. But at least EUROVISION has something for each and every taste.
Ah well! That is true. What are the chances I would have found your least favorite song of all?
My all time top three I have picked two past entries and one from this year seeing as it is the 60th anniversary
Although it is hard to choose one or even three favourites the first two I only had to check out the play count in my iTunes library to tell me how much I have these tunes on repeat. Although the first one and winner of back in 1964 has an English version I much prefer the Italian version and do sing along to the Italian version. It just sounds and fits so much better for me.
1 Non Ho L’Eta -Gigliola Cinquetti 1964
2 Come What May – Vicky Leandros 1972
3 Still in Love with you – Electro Velvet 2015
With Electro Velvet I really like this tune, and found the groups name and concept most creative what a shame they didn’t score better in Vienna.
Well, there are so many songs I like. The songs I sing usually reflect my mood or state of mind. Recently the songs most sung were from Conchita’s album. So , yes Rise like a Phoenix is sung over and over. Very uplifting when you are down! Another song I love and so does the family, gets requested a lot at the German club, but rarely played is Conny Froeboss’ 1962 hit Zwei Kleine Italiener. It is a fun song. Of Course Waterloo and Robinson has to be on my list with My Little World. Oh then off to 1979 to Dschingisch Khan. Ok this is too difficult as I love other songs as well. I I do like Loïc’s Rhythm Inside. Yep too many to name and I do sing them all. Congratulations is also on my list, one of the first Eurovision songs to be introduced to the Sowden clan.
I constantly sing “Amanecer” by Edurne’s song, well mostly the “EEeEEeO” bit. Even ask my house mate, I just randomly sing it because it’s such an amazing piece to sing though I’m not doing it any justice. “Diva” by Dana International has one of the most catchiest choruses in Eurovision history and it’s constantly in my head.
I can’t stop singing “Viva Maria, Viva Victoria, Aphrodite, Viva la Diva, Viva Victoria, Cleopatra!” sometimes. In the past year I also burst into Mans’ “Heroes” song.. “But we’re dancing with the demons in our minds”. Those are the 3 main songs I randomly break into.
Oh, I have so many songs I constantly feel like singing. But if I have to make a top 3 of the songs that I sing on a daily basis, I think they’ll be:
My Number One – Helena Paparizou
Glorious – Cascada
Never Forget – Greta Salome and Jonsi
But I sing many more, depending on my mood. I like and sing Maybe – Valentina Monetta everytime someone says the word “Maybe”, or Crno i Belo – Kaliopi, when I’m angry. I also sing To the Sky – Tijana Dapcevic before an exam, because the song calms me down. So there are too many songs that I like to sing, even though I don’t sing them everyday.
Alexandru, all 5 the songs you mentioned – My number one, Glorious, Never forget, Maybe and To the sky have been covered in South Africa.
Eurovision always brings out the ‘Divo’ in me so its loud ballads that have the neighbours cringing when I fail to reach all the important notes (yes I get that loud unfortunately for them). So of course the lovely, Sanna, Chiara, and Loreen etc etc are always on the list. But every now and then its the fun songs that help to get the house clean much more effectively. With a day off work today its:
Pasha Parfeny – Lăutar
Teo – Cheescake
Verka – Serduchka Dancing
thats getting me through.
Of course after 60 wonderful years of brilliant music to be thankful for there is always something new to revisit.
Okay this might be extremely lame, but the one song that ALWAYS gets stuck in my head and I always need to sing is “Eastern European Funk” from Lithuania in 2010. I’m still so sad that didn’t qualify for the final.
The second one would be Caroban by Serbia in 2011. Even though I can’t speak a word of Serbian I always sing along to this in the car, just making weird Balkan sounds.
Third, and maybe lamest, is “Moustache” from France in 2014. I know this song finished last but I love it and I know ALL THE WORDS.
(1) Ooh-Ah, Just a Little Bit, (2) Dzule (Yugoslavia 1983), and (3) “Hajde da Ludujemo” (Yugoslavia 1990)…These three I sing all the time, much to the chagrin of those who know me. There is a bonus entry for “Sveta Ljubav” (Croatia 1996) in an attempt to try to hit the high notes!
Sadly, no one riding in my car has ever said “Thank you for the Music” to me!
This one was by far the most difficult for me to answer. I have many different favorite categories. But when it comes to what I spontaneously belt out repeatedly, it’s the following:
1) Gravity by Zlata (of course!)
2) A Million Voices by Polina
3) Marry Me by Krista.
Clearly I like the power vocals.
Ah, there are a few that stand out, but whether I can choose just three?
1) Euphoria by Loreen
2) No, No, Never by Texas Lightning (I’m a sucker for that pseudo-country twang and the lyrics really are sweet)
3) The Way You Are by Anti-Social Scene (It’s happy, has some great harmonizing, and just makes me feel good singing along while driving)
The 3 Eurovision songs that i’m always singing are:
1) Molitva naturally!
2) The rounder girls All to You because it is just a really fun and happy song
3) Rona Nishliu Suus because it is a great song to give the old vocal cords a workout….and the lungs!
“I Love Belarus!” Belarus, 2011
“Golden Boy”, Israel, 2015
“One More Night” Netherlands, 2003
My 3 are all songs that were runners up..almost made it but not quite.
Is It True – Iceland 2009
Dancing Lasha Tumbai – Ukraine 2007
Better the Devil You Know – UK 1993
Spain’s “Quedate Conmigo” and “Dancing In The Rain” are recurrent in my head. I even see myself reciting its words as part of conversations.
Serbia’s “Molitva,” on the other side, is even a way of saying “Goodbye, I love you” to a friend, and every once in a while returns to my mind and lips.
