Destiny Chukunyere was a familiar face at the X Factor Malta auditions broadcast on TVM this week. She gave a faultless and impressive and soulful performance of the Jennifer Hudson song Giving Myself.
Destiny sailed through to the next phase and received four YES votes from the judges.
Destiny won the 2015 Junior Eurovision Song Contest for Malta with Not My Soul. She also had success in Britain’s Got Talent where she made it to the Live Semi-final shows.
The second show of auditions on X Factor Malta was broadcast and a highlight was the upbeat performance by Demi Galea of Addicted To You by Avicii.
Although the clip shown was only relatively short it gave a good impression of Demi and her vocals and enthusiasm. All the judges enjoyed her performance and she sailed through to the next phase.
The new season of X Factor began in Malta, where the eventual winning act will go to Eurovision. ESC Covers thought the pick of the first auditions was by Justine Shorfid.
Justine gave an outstanding performance of All I Want by Kodaline. She performed with a lot of power and emotion.
Justine sailed through this first audition with four YES votes and a standing ovation by the judges.
Ira Losco feat. Michela have released a much anticipated brand new song and video clip together. The track is titled Cannonball. It is a high powerful and raucous pop/rock song packed with energy and fun and top vocals by the girls.
Ira was a judge on X Factor in Malta where Michela won the competition and went on to represent Malta at the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest with Chameleon.
Ira of course represented Malta twice on the Eurovision stage in 2002 with 7th Wonder and in 2016 with Walk On Water.
Kayati are back with a beautiful cover version of the number one smash hit by Ariana Grande, 7 Rings. They put their own unique soulful interpretation in to the track.
Sisters, Fatima and Mabrouka, are Kayati and their voices blend together perfectly and they are versatile in the type of songs they perform.
Kayati made it all the way to the live finals of the X Factor Malta this year. I am sure we will be seeing and hearing a lot more from the girls in the future.
Check out 7 Rings by Kayati below. The filming of the video was by Sam Vella.
Michela released her long awaited Eurovision song for Malta, Chameleon, and the music video this week. Let us focus on Michela and her upbeat and quirky song and video.
A lot of people were expecting a ballad and so it is a nice surprise (particularly in a Eurovision where there are a lot of serious songs) that Michela gives us this happy vibe with a contemporary and radio friendly song. Chameleon has a Latin and reggaetón feel and you can imagine listening and dancing to this on the beach during the summer.
Chameleon is composed and produced by the Symphonics team, who have been very successful at Eurovision in recent years. Let us hope that record continues in Israel. The song was recorded and mixed in Austria, Sweden and Malta.
The video clip is beautifully produced and was filmed entirely in Malta courtesy of the broadcaster, PBS.
Michela will now focus on her promotion for Chameleon over the weeks leading up to the Eurovision in Tel Aviv in May.
Michela won the X Factor in Malta and gained massive popularity with her crystal clear and soulful vocals. Prior to the X Factor, Michela had success in competitions in Lithuania and spent some time in England working on her development as an artist. She even worked with a producer of Rihanna.
You can see the video for Chameleon below as well as some of Michela’s highlights from the X Factor tv series.

ESC Covers will bring more details through the week about the four different categories.
The X Factor auditions are well under way in Malta, where the eventual winners will represent them at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest.
ESC Covers will report more about the X Factor as the show develops. But we wanted to bring to the attention the unique girl duo, Kayati.
Kayati are sisters Fatima and Mabrouka and they gave a very impressive audition and in our opinion bring a breath of fresh air. The girls sailed through to the next phase.
ESC Covers wishes them well on this exciting journey.
Nicole Hammett gave an outstanding audition in the X Factor Malta. She performed a wonderful version of No More Tears (Enough Is Enough) by Donna Summer & Barbra Streisand.
All four judges thoroughly enjoyed her presentation. Even Ira Losco and Alexandra Alden were up dancing during her performance.
The X Factor is being used in Malta to select their Eurovision representative for the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest.
