Next up on the rehearsal stage is San Marino’s Piqued Jacks, an alt-rock 4-piece band from the Tuscany region of Italy. Apparently Like An Animal is a song about the freedom of love and indulging passionate impulses, which is pretty much the most Italian thing ever. TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – GEORGIA
The next rehearsal is by GEORGIA. IRU will be singing her powerful ballad Echo. This was the very last song to be announced for this year’s Eurovision, but it already feels like it’s always been part of our Eurovision playlist. Continue reading TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – GEORGIA
TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – SLOVENIA
Only at the 5th rehearsals, we see our first band of the day, but definitely not the last. Following in the footsteps of LPS last year, Joker Out are one of Slovenia’s most successful acts of recent years. Their song title Carpe Diem represents the only Latin in this year’s competition, and presumably it’s Joker Out’s intention to seize every day between now and next week’s Semi-Final. Continue reading TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – SLOVENIA
TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – POLAND
The singer from Poland had to undergo a lot of bad comments on social media but BLANKA is finally in Liverpool and ready for her first rehearsal. It is a super-catchy pop song. Blanka, who is half-Polish and half-Bulgarian, will sing a song called Solo. It’s all about getting rid of bad relationships and doing better on your own, so basically like Flowers by Miley Cyrus but with way bigger Eurovision dancefloor vibes. Continue reading TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – POLAND
TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – GREECE
The third rehearsal is happening and we are heading south to warmer climes now. There we find Victor Vernicos, who will represent Greece. At 16, he’s the youngest artist in Eurovision this year and the youngest performer ever to represent Greece. But like Amanda Georgiadi Tenfjord last year, he has both Greek and Scandinavian heritage – his dad is Danish. Continue reading TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – GREECE
TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – ICELAND
The second rehearsal comes from ICELAND. According to Eurovision.tv we’re cranking up the tempo now, with the musical equivalent of two Berocca tablets in a glass of water. Iceland’s Diljá will sing her empowerment bop Power. Diljá is a physiotherapy student which should come in handy for those artists who really jump around on stage. Continue reading TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – ICELAND
TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – ESTONIA
Today is the third day of rehearsals and we will have the last 11 countries from semi final 2. Due to load shedding level 6 (which means 12 out of 24 hours no power), it is impossible for here in South Africa to cover most of them. Continue reading TUESDAY 2 MAY REHEARSALS – ESTONIA
MONDAY 1 MAY REHEARSALS – CYPRUS
Last but by no means least for the day is the rehearsal from Cyprus. It is Andrew Lambrou, who sees Reiley’s broken heart and raises him one that you can’t break because it’s already broken 💔. Andrew is a Cypriot Australian, and he’s got fans in both countries and probably also in Greece and a few other countries. Continue reading MONDAY 1 MAY REHEARSALS – CYPRUS
MONDAY 1 MAY REHEARSALS – BELGIUM
Second last rehearsal comes from Belgium. It is Gustaph with a song called Because of You. The song is a huge 90s-style bop. This is Gustaph’s third time at Eurovision, but previously he was very much about the backing vocals, and now he’s centre stage. Continue reading MONDAY 1 MAY REHEARSALS – BELGIUM
MONDAY 1 MAY REHEARSALS – ROMANIA
It is the turn of Romania next. They have an eighteen old singer called Theodor Andrei and he will be singing his sassy rock track D.G.T. (Off and On). Continue reading MONDAY 1 MAY REHEARSALS – ROMANIA
