One of the posts we lost yesterday and which we now re-do, is about the sad news of the death of DIRK LAZENBY from complications of Covid 19.

Dirk was a singer from Cape Town. He covered in 2017 two Eurovision songs for ESC Covers, one of them is the 2012 Eurovision entry from BELARUS.

The original song is WE ARE THE HEROES by LITESOUND. Dirk’s Afrikaans cover is called EK WIL JOU HELD WEES.

Barry Tsai of ESC Covers is busy revamping the  YouTube Channel and he did a video for us of Dirk’s cover.

AFRI FRIEND AWARDS – CATEGORY ONE – BEST FULL CD BY A MALE SINGER

We start off with the first of ten categories of the AFRI FRIEND awards 2017. The category is BEST FULL CD BY A MALE SINGER.

The criteria for CD’s to be considered are

a – Obviously it has to be by a male singer (although a couple of duets are allowed on the CD)

b – 60% or more of the songs have to be in Afrikaans

c – At least one song has to be cover (Eurovision or otherwise)

d – Released after 1 January 2016 but before 31 October 2017

So far 4 CD’s are being considered (and as we discover more that fulfill the criteria, they will be added to this post

NEW EUROVISION COVERS by DIRK LAZENBY

The day started off great when we received the latest two Eurovision covers. A singer from Cape Town, DIRK LAZENBY has recorded a full CD and on it will be two Eurovision covers.The CD is currently at the printers and once it becomes available, we will inform you about the details.

The two euro covers are
Lithuania 2012 Love is blind of Donny Montell which will be called JY’S DIE EEN VIR MY (you are the one for me)

Belarus 2012 We are the heroes of Litesound which will be called EK WIL JOU HELP WEES (I want to be your hero).

Andy Mikheev, the chief editor of ESCKaz website heard the two covers and said it is of the BEST ever to come out of South Africa.

Roy van der Merwe, the president of Eurovision South Africa loves both songs as well. but most know he just love covers and is not as objective when it comes to real world quality,which according to Andy these two covers are.

Dirk is still fairly unknown but this CD, if the other songs are of the same standard, is destined for big things.
