Minus One reveal ‘Alter Ego’ for Cyprus

Minus One

The official music video has been released for the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest entry from Cyprus. The rock band Minus One will perform Alter Ego. The song is composed by legendary Swedish writer Thomas G:Son with Minus One. The first play of the video was broadcast on CyBC news.

Alter Ego is a pop/rock song with a strong production. The video includes a wolf (whose name is Ares). The video production team were Director: Emilios Avraam, Director of Photography: Sofronis Sofroniou, Production Manager: Daina Papadaki, Production Design/Styling: Christy Polydorou, Constandina Andreou, Assistant Art: George Trakoshis, Make up Artist: Eleni Vavanou, Participating: Andria Aletrari, Car owner: George Adamou, Drone Operators: Antonis Loizides, Theodoros Demetriades, Electricians: Polyvios Symeonides, Donald Justus Gomez, Harry Trakoshis and Catering: Andreas Louros, Constantinos Themistokleous.

Cyprus go for rock in 2016 with Minus One

The public broadcaster CyBC has announced that the rock band Minus One will represent Cyprus at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden. The band are very popular in Cyprus and actually took part in the Eurovision selection in 2015 with the song Shine.

The song will be composed by Eurovision veteran from Sweden Thomas G:son, who wrote the 2012 winning song by Loreen entitled Euphoria. It is expected Thomas will go back to his roots and compose a rock song for the competition.

Sophia Patsalides represented Cyprus at the 2014 Junior Eurovision Song Contest with her song I pio omorfi mera (The most wonderful day). Sophia’s big dream is to participate in the adult Eurovision Song Contest in the future.

Sophia has continued with her music since Junior Eurovision and she recently performed on the online station Balcony tv an original song entitled The Love You Know. She is also working on other musical projects including a performance with a rock band at school and also she has recorded two cover versions of songs that she will make videos for and reveal them soon.

Cyprus Eurochallenge 2

6 songs make it to the final in Cyprus

The auditions shows are over and the Eurochallenge 2 has taken place in Cyprus. 10 acts competed and six have made it through to the final on 1 February.

The same judges as last week selected the songs to progress to the final. They were Elena Patroklou (Cyprus ESC 1991) , Alex Panayi (Cyprus ESC 1995, 2000), Despina Olympiou (Cyprus ESC 2013), Tasos Trifonos, Christer Björkman (Sweden ESC 1992) and Dimitris Kontopoulos (composer of some previous Eurovision songs).

Between each song a preview postcard was shown of the 10 acts working in a music project performing their favourite Eurovision songs.

The six songs to make it to the final are –

  • Charis Savva & Nearchos Evaggelou – Dila Den Agapo
  • Giannis Karagiannis – One Thing I Should Have Done
  • Hovig – Stone In A River
  • Minus One – Shine
  • Doody – Magic
  • Panagiotis Koufogiannis – Without Your Love
