PART I: The Hunks of Melodifestivalen

ESC Covers says “Välkommen tillbaka” as we return to Stockholm for the final of Melodifestivalen 2017, the Swedish selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2017 in Kyiv, Ukraine.

Guest editor Dennis Flores from the United States of America will be reporting from Friends Arena in this four-part series.

In this first installment, we playfully focus on the Men of Mello.

Will the Swedish public choose their winner based on looks? As with Eurovision, the entire package of an entry is what decides the winner: the song, the staging, and the look of the artist(s). Sometimes the public is smitten by the good looks.

The Men of Mello Final 2017 are (A) Boris René, (B) Robin Bengtsson, (C) Jon Henrik Fjällgren, (D) Anton Hagman, (E) FO&O (Felix, Oscar, and Omar), (D) Nano, (E) Benjamin Ingrosso, and (F) Owe Thörnqvist.

Dennis’ picks:

3rd Place: Benjamin Ingrosso

Benjamin Ingrosso has that friendly, guy next door look. Watching him on stage, he comes off a bit goofy with his suave dancing.

2nd Place: Anton Hagman

Anton Hagman also has that guy next door look, but with his performance he has that sad, puppy-dog eyes, which surely is trying to play to the audience, after all he did beat Eurovision winner and fan favourite Loreen!

1st Place: Robin Bengtsson

Absolutely without any doubt, Robin is the clear winner here. His icy blue eyes are piercing to the camera. With multiple close-ups and directly staring deep into the viewers at home, he can hypnotize you with his whole performance.

SWEDISH SELECTION – semi final 3 – impressions

The third semi final in Sweden is tonight and here are my impressions of the 7 songs on offer

7th place – OWE THORNQUIST

Maybe he is well known in Sweden but will be a disaster for Europe, I cannot see anybody there voting for him

6th place – BELLA & FILIPPA

Innocent song and one of them is extremely blond but this is the kind of song you expect from Malta or Portugal, sure not from Sweden

5th place – KRISTA SIEGFRIDS

Her Finnish entry in 2013 was so strong and catchy – this is quite sleepy, but nice it is in Swedish

4th place – JASMIN KARA

Lovely dress and a song called GRAVITY – we already had such a title for Ukraine one year and will have it for Cyprus this year, so this will go to second chance

3rd place – ANTON HAGMAN

Better looking than his song, reminds me of Frans last year – young male which appeals to the younger generation – also second chance for him

2nd place – FO & O

This is actually my favourite song but from what I have seen, they go not present the song well and the 3 guys are dressed in all sorts of clothes which does not seem to make any impression

1st place – ROBIN BENGTSSON

He did well last year, and he should win this semi final, the best staging of the night. The song could have been a bit stronger, but then I heard just 30 seconds
