POSITION 33 IN THE 2023 EUROVISION – DENMARK

Morten Thomassen from Norway started reported on the final positions of the 37 entries in the 2023 Eurovision song contest. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

This is a blog entry and represents only writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.

It’s been a while since all the Nordic countries were in the finals and one of the countries that has really struggled are our Danish friends, they haven’t been in the finals since 2019 and it’s now starting to feel like a year has passed.

If the bookmakers were to be believed, there was finally going to be a change to this this year with the song “Breaking My Heart” and well, it was probably not quite the song that was playing this year that made things completely go their way.

Because until only hours before semi-final 2 was held, Reiley was among those who would make it to the final with something over 50% chance according to the bookmakers, but when the odds closed it was down to 17%.

What happened, a vocal that was a complete crisis was what happened and it was only the people in Iceland who managed to overhear this and were generous enough to give a full 6 points.

Right from the first note, things go wrong vocally and it’s only in fragments of the song that it sounds fairly good, mostly this is very puzzled and sour vocally.

This was something we Norwegian ESC fans feared would happen to our artist since autotune was used in the MGP, but fortunately Alessandra delivered the goods internationally, rumors say that autotune was used in the Danish final as well and for them this vocal nightmare occurred.

When the guy is also alone on stage, with the exception of the glimpse we get of one of the stage workers pushing the walls around, then probably too little happens on stage for this to be interesting for those who voted.

I read somewhere that Norway and Denmark were chosen to open their respective semi-finals as they were considered to be child-friendly and for Reiley’s part, we can hope that the children learned that you should be able to sing with the voice you have.

However, adults who vote are not as pleasant and probably thought that the sugary show we were served was probably too sweet and thus not as edible.

Actually think our Danish friends should consider foreign judges in their national finals, they are to become a nation to be reckoned with in the ESC, the Danish people obviously don’t have the flair anymore.
