POSITION 27 IN THE 2023 EUROVISION – ICELAND

Morten Thomassen from Norway started reported on the final positions of the 37 entries in the 2023 Eurovision song contest. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

This is a blog entry and represents only writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.

While the first semi-final was a parade for the Nordic countries that took part in it, there was not much to parade about when it comes to the Nordic countries that took part in the second semi-final.

Admittedly, our Icelandic friends came in 11th place, but with a whopping 30 points up to the last place which guarantees a place in the final, Dilja and the song “Power” had no chance of a place in the final and personally I’m a little surprised that it did so well in the semi-final .

I considered this song to be a lot of jury food and such songs rarely do well with the people and when you look at the polls it probably didn’t quite go through with very many people, it did get 12 points from Denmark, but apart from that it was the best stray points it got.

Now our Icelandic friends made it to the final in 10th place in their semi-final last year, so it was probably fitting that they came in a sour 11th place this year, but as previously mentioned, when you are so far away a place in the finals makes you swallow the bitterness pretty quickly, if you ask me.

Dilja should have an energetic performance, she is quite stable vocally, even if it can sometimes sound as if her voice fails, but she makes up for it with power in other parts of the performance.

I’m probably a little afraid that the possibly biggest mistake our Icelandic friend made was performing on stage alone, she simply didn’t have enough power in herself to appear powerful on stage, some dancers or just a band I think could have raised the number a few notches.

A lot of different graphics were used as a background in the performance and I don’t think it was always quite in style with the song and I also think that I didn’t quite get in touch with the artist through the TV screen, so I didn’t quite understand what kind of powers she had on me.

We have to bet that this was a small error from our Icelandic friends and bet that they will come back stronger next year.
