Switzerland have held their national selection with six finalists taking part. The show took place in Kreuzlingen in front of an enthusiastic audience. Televoting and an expert jury would decide which act would go to Vienna.
The six finalists performed their Eurovision song and then performed a cover version of a popular song. The finalists were –
Deborah Bough – Take me back to 23 (cover song: Shake It Off by Taylor Swift)
Timebelle – Singing About Love (cover song: Rude Boy by Rihanna)
Licia Chery – Fly (cover song: All About That Bass by Meghan Trainor)
Andy McSean – Hey Now – (cover song: Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol)
Mélanie René – Time To Shine – (cover song: Chandelier by Sia)
Tiziana – Only Human – (cover song: The Power Of Love by Frankie Goes To Hollywood)
Conchita Wurst was the special guest and performed the winning 2014 Eurovision song, Rise Like A Phoenix.
After the voting was over it was declared that Mélanie René had won the right to represent Switzerland at the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest with her song, Time To Shine.
You can see Mélanie perform her winning song below –
The 1979 entry of Ireland, HAPPY MAN by Cathal Dunne was covered in Finnish by Kari Tapio. I have this cover this 1981 or so. Interesting is that I have never heard the original. I got the Kari’s cover purely because I like his singing since he covered various songs of my most loved German schlager male singer, G G ANDERSON.
Diana Gromova competed in the Belarus Junior Eurovison national selections in 2007, 2008 and 2009. She is maturing each day as a quality singer and performer and has toured Russia and Belarus as well as performing at a music academy in the USA.
Diana has just released her new song. It is called Forgive Me. It is composed by José Juan Santana Rodríguez and Rafael A Herrero, who have been involved in various Eurovision entries and national selections in recent years. The song is upbeat dance song with a strong production.
Diana is now working on her promotion of the song with some appearances coming soon with plans for a video. You can hear Forgive Me below on Diana’s Soundcloud profile as well as some of her other songs including her version of Beyonce’s Listen, where she showcases her strong vocals.
We have heard that Thomas will be helping Nina in Georgia with her entry WARRIOR – doing a new arrangement. Hopefully this will give the song an even more international feel. If I remember correctly, he did the same in 2007 for Malta with the song Vertigo by Olivia Lewis
As the preparations for Vienna 2015 are in full swing and more acts for this year’s contest are announced, let’s take a look at what Copenhagen offered those who were able to make it to the Danish city in May 2014.
The Unforgettable Venue: It may have looked desolate from the outside, but it took everyone’s breath away when they first went inside.
The Audience were part of the show: Not only were fans at home featured on the video screens but the audience participated by setting off confetti guns on command
Meeting up with friends and fans, old and new: You never knew who you would bump into. Friends you hadn’t seen since the last Eurovision, or even the host of the 2012 ESC in Baku, Nargiz Birk-Petersen
Performances during the day: Each day the public in Copenhagen were given the chance to see performances by their favourite Eurovision stars, including Spain’s Ruth Lorenzo and Poland’s Cleo
Performances at night: And each night, those lucky enough to have access to the EuroClub were treated to even more Eurovision personalities, including FYR Macedonia’s Tijana, Israel’s Mei Finegold, Iceland’s Pollapönk and the Israeli Cabaret act, EuroFalsh
And the winner is: In the end, it all became about 1 winner, Conchita Wurst of Austria
But despite all the excitement: There was always time for a bit of sightseeing and champagne. Thank you Copenhagen for a wonderful time!
This is a very easy question – with ESC Covers publishing the covers of several Herrey’s vinyl singles, we need you to name one of the 3 Herrey brothers – the first name, so there are 3 to choose from.
I really like this one of Herreys, called DIN TELEFON. It is sung in Swedish and was composed by Lasse Holm and Ingela “Pling” Forsman who have written several euro entries. Lasse wrote entries in at least 1982, 1983, 1985, 1986 and 1993 and even was one half of the performer in 1986.
The 5th question revolves around SAN MARINO and I have published three promo CD’s singles, 2012, 2013 and 2014, all three of Valentina Monetta and all three composed by Ralph Siegel. The question is easy, which one took San Marino into the final?
