t was not many hours of sleep before you left for the airport to go home, right there and then it is tiring, but when you get home early it just feels good really.

And now you have time to think about what happened on the final night and the reactions that have come in hindsight.

Ever since the day Ukraine was invaded, the results list has changed at the betting companies where you can bet on the result in ESC.

And there our Ukrainian friends stayed until they won, so in a way it is a little strange that many get so angry that they actually won.

In other words, voices made with a sympathetic background are less valuable than those who only vote for their personal taste in music.

It is honestly a bit silly to think like that, but we must remember that many of the negative statements about Ukraine’s victory came in a disappointment intoxication and in such an intoxication most of us probably have someone with a little too LARGE letters.

I myself have stated that I was a little in doubt whether all this sympathy one thought would come would really manifest itself, well it can be said that I was quite wrong.

And that’s exactly what I live very well with, Ukraine’s song ended up being my favorite song this year.

The voting in ESC has for several years created many reactions, perhaps especially among the fans,

When KEiiNO in 2019 won with the audience, but was judged quite north and down by the jury, many demanded that one soon had to cut out these professional music people should lose all power.

So it is now happening in 2022 that the professional jury largely votes according to their own taste and “only” has Ukraine in fourth place, a position most people could probably have lived that they had ended up in.

But, then comes the televoting and with a new record in that area, the guys from Ukraine crushed all opposition and became worthy winners in my eyes.

Now it was the people who “failed” by becoming sensitive and voting for the heart and not for their musical head.

One almost has to ask those who now react as strongly to the audience’s votes now in 2022 as to the juries’ votes in 2019, how are we really going to decide which song will win the ESC?

Then almost only the lottery looks like the only option left now, well thought that it would happen, had there not been angry fans before then they would have flooded out then I would think.

I think the scheme we have now is good, to win you have to have the support of the two different groups that vote, also last year only Måneskin on fourth among the professionals and first among the people, there was not much complaint then, but those who were very supportive of Switzerland last year are possibly even bitterer than those who voted last year.

As I said before, there is nothing in the rules for how we as the audience should vote, so whether it is the emotions that prevail or it is careful calculation you use to choose who gets your up to 20 votes is fine no matter which method you use.

And no matter how the winning country has received its votes, their victory is deserved, but this is not really the first time Ukraine has won with some sympathy in the pot.

Back in 2016, Russia was the big favorite to win before the ESC circus reached Stockholm, a country that not long before had annexed the Crimean peninsula from Ukraine.

This led to the world community’s large protests, but in most forums they were still one of the gang and could participate on equal terms with others.

Ukraine participated this year with a song about an invasion, albeit one from 1944, but the parallel to the recent situation in the country then was so obvious that many reacted to it.

When the final night came, the situation had changed, the two biggest competitors for the victory would turn out to be Russia and Ukraine with Australia as an outsider.

I have a feeling that many people voted for Ukraine that year more to take the victory from Russia and not because they absolutely believed that Jamala had the best song.

There was a bit of whining in 2016 about this, I remember, but then Ukraine fought against the “enemy” and then it felt maybe right that it happened, now in 2022 the enemy was banned and then there was trouble.

Well, emotions are something you do not always have control over, decisions made on that basis can create reactions and well what we have seen has happened this year, we can hope those who are most disappointed will have that feeling to pass soon.

Another thing I want a little feeling for a Norway effort this year, Subwoolfer ended up in a 10th place and for me it is a completely acceptable position.

Once again it is with the professional juries that we struggle to be accepted, we are starting to see a trend here and I have said several times that in the Norwegian final we must have a vote similar to the one in the international final.

Yes, it can end up that the people’s favorite does not win and that the jury decides Norway’s contribution and then we can experience that Norway scores well with the jury and poorly in the televoting in the other countries.

And then we are just as far if the big wish is for Norway to say fourth victory, but I think that this way of deciding the winning song would be the best.

For the year both the jury and the people agree that the same song is best, well then suddenly the victory may be within reach for us.

We will see if the MGP editorial staff makes any move when it comes to voting and the next weeks and months will also show where ESC-2023 will be held, it will be exciting to see how that story ends.
