We are almost finished, here is the second last song
Hasta manana, ’til we meet again
Don’t know where, don’t know when
Of course we know where most of us will meet, STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN
And we know when, MAY 2016
But maybe you want to look into your crystal ball and think about MAY 2017 – where you you think we will meet for Eurovision?
Well I am notoriously bad at predicting winners, so why not take a wild shot and say Yerevan! I would love to get back to the Caucasus!
I don’t know what the future holds for us, but I think that in May 2017 we’ll probably meet in a country where Eurovision hasn’t been held before (such as Romania, Poland, Hungary, etc.) or in Italy. Since Italy returned to Eurovision it had great rankings in the finals, besides from 2014 (which was also good from my point of view). This year it even placed nr. 1 in the televise, so maybe it would be Rome 2017, Milan 2017, or another big, beautiful italian town.
Great question!! The cynic in me says that we could meet in Istanbul in 2017, as Turkey has missed the contest for a few years and they have a fierce amount of fans around Europe. This is regardless if whether their song is any good at all.
However, I’m going to pick from my heart, and i think we may get to see lovely Ljubljana or a return to Brussels or tallin in the near future. To summarise all this…. I’d say……. Istanbul (why does the cynical always win for me)
well, with the return of turkey after a long break, there’s always a chance. But the always qualifying Ukraine may be the one to watch. After a year’s absence, could it be that we return to Ukraine for 2017?
I’d also like to say that we could be in belgium or the Netherlands in 2017… But I feel that could just be wishful thinking.
Istanbul was great in 2004 but maybe if they host again it could go to ANKARA
I really agree with Alexandru: it’s time for Eurovision to be held in East-Central Europe. I don’t think that Denmark will follow Sweden for the third time in a row. I’d also be happy with another debut as host, probably ib South: Portugal and Cyprus. Or let’s go to Berlin, my favourite city 🙂
I also want it in BUDAPEST, WARSAW or PRAGUE or somewhere there. have never been to POLAND or CZECH REPUBLIC so that will be great
This is one oft favourite abba songs! It came on in the car last night and a friend and I were bellowing it out around the streets of Brisbane at 11pm…
I’m really hoping that if we can’t get another Austrian win (unlikely for another 50 years) that the Dutch or the Belgs can win again. They both deserve a win and I’d also love to go to either those countries!!!
Nick glad you were singing it in the car – HASTA MANANA was the first ABBA song covered in AFRIKAANS and that happened way back in 1977
This is a good question. You can split it into where you would LIKE Eurovision to be in 2017 and where you THINK it would be.
I would LIKE Eurovision 2017 to be in Lisbon as I think all fans would given their history in the Contest but I THINK it will be in Baku. I have a feeling that Azerbaijan will pull out all stops to try and win again.
If there’s any justice, it will be LISBON! But I would be delighted to see Eurovision in VALETTA (they love the contest so much, and I’ve always wanted to go there anyway) or PRAGUE (so gorgeous). Of course, I’m also rooting for the underdogs: Amsterdam, Brussels, Zurich, or San Marino—any smaller country that has rarely done well in the last few decades should have its turn. (Same for London, Paris, Madrid—any of the Big Six that hasn’t scored well in a long time.) I sure would like to see things shaken up, with the weaker recent entries making a big splash.)
I’m going to stick with my heritage and make a completely outrageous call – we will be in LONDON because the UK will win in 2016!
Last time UK hosted, it was in BIRMINGHAM and it was horrible, maybe they will find CARDIFF or LIVERPOOL or another city? London is too big and crowded.
I have noticed generally countries who have been gaining attention and placing well in previous years tend to win – eventually. Sweden want to win again so I think they will be sending their best song. The competition will be fierce because Sweden will set the bar high. Also several countries that missed the final will be coming back with vengeance! Iceland (REYKJAVIK) – the luck could stay in the North and I really want them to win with the right song. Dima Bilan may be back for Russia to take a second crown or they’ll just send a joke entry because they are tired of being booed! I think with all the attention the Top 5 are recieving one of them could win. France (PARIS) (btw I don’t live in Europe) if they can step out of their comfort zone surely could host a beautiful event. The United Kingdom (LONDON) would be a surprise win – they have the infrastructure and Olympic venues that probably need some use! London may also draw extra International attention. Who wouldn’t want to go to Spain (BARCELONA)! They have been doing well recently and really want to win. Albania (TIRANA)?
But I predict Italy (ROME). Rome apparently needs a makeover and what could be more glamorous than adding a bit of Eurovision glitter to spruce up their historic sites. Bellissimo!
AUSTRALIA 2017 wooottt
Forget tomorrow we can do tonight again 😉
I agree with Niall – this can be two different questions. I Want it to be in Malta, since it looks like a beautiful place and they send a lot of good acts to Eurovision. But I Think it will be in Dublin. Ireland had a great run in the 90s and I think its about time they do so again. 🙂
File this answer under: it will never happen. But I’ve really loved the Moldovan entries in the last several years. I love the blend of regional sound with modern. Plus, it would be great to see a win from a country so far out of the mainstream.
I would love it to be held in Ljubjana in 2017. It would allow us to visit family across the border and enjoy Slowenias countryside .
I would love to see Portugal win and have 2017 in Lisbon. Such an interesting city, with some great music. the other city would be Warsaw, another great city. Maybe Poland could pull it off.
Hasta mañana… nos veremos en Madrid o Barcelona en 2017. What if these Spanish words coincide with the language of the 2016 winning song? Spain hasn’t won since 1969 (shared victory) and it’s time to take the big prize again.
My crystal ball is on the blink this week… keeps giving a cloudy reception…
I would love to see a new country come through and spread us all of our feet with their song.
Somewhere that we may not have been yet… LATVIA, LITHUANIA might be nice… but maybe the rhythm inside BELGIUM could surprise us all with a win…
Who knows until 15 May 2016…
I have been to Latvia and Estonia so a Lithuanian visit will be nice
How about a back-to-back???? I’d be ecstatic if Sweden wins again!
Oh gosh.. where where… I would really love to see Sweden win back to back. I can hear the noise already if they were to do that.
It would be great for Iceland or Portugal to win I think. I think Iceland has great songs, and I’ve not been there before but hear it’s such a lovely place with friendly people. Portugal is an amazing place. I enjoyed Lisbon when I visited a couple of years ago (and if I were to go again, I’d spend more time in Porto). I can hear the custard tarts already calling me! To put music back into my comment, I think Portugal has such wonderful cultural songs and I think many eurovision fans really appreciate that they stick to their own language for their songs.
If the winning song went east, I think I’d like it to be Hungary. They have a great selection song contest.
Or may Estonia.. I love their Eesti Laul.
Oh, who am I kidding, I have no crystal ball, but I am fairly sure I’d be very happy with the winning artist and country. You don’t get all the way to number one spot without having a great song that everyone loves.
This a great question and I am going to go with a dream result, for me anyhow.
Mainly as it starts with a invite to Australia to comeback in 2016, following their great start in Vienna this year.
I can imagine Australia firstly qualifying from semi-final 2 this time- Then going on to win in Stockholm with Cyprus as a strong 2nd place, this would mean also Eurovision 2017 could be hosted in Europe via SBS.
I think it would be a great idea for each of the big 5 countries & Cyprus to put forward bids for the joint hosting role with Australia. As for the best bids I think they would come from two traditional countries-UK or Germany may win so we end up going to Manchester or Munchen in 2017. That would be a journey ….. Manchester 2017 would win.
With the huge effort the Western European countries are taking this year (especially UK) I pretty much think it might be in a Big 5 country. I reckon Malta would be a great place but an evening amazing place would be Sarajevo, Bosnia & Herzegovina.
Bosnia or Armenia
Armenia,Bosnia or France
I hope that we are going to Budapest in 2017. Hungary are such a musically talented country and they always bring such strong performers… It’s time for them to win!
Doesn’t history show us that after Sweden wins, Denmark wins next? 2000-2001 and again 20013-2014.
I say Reykjavik 2017! I spent a week traveling around Iceland this year a few months before ESC and was tickled to hear Loreen playing on the radio, not to mention hearing many past winning (and non-winning) songs played at Kiki the night I checked out that club.
Obviously, Iceland is beautiful. But I do think they have a great ear for music, even if their entries haven’t always demonstrated as such. And they really get the concept of Euro-Pop. Let them win this year! 🙂
I would love to spend two weeks in Hungary as I had such a great few days there this year. I would also like to go to Malta or Italy or Netherlands….i’m not too fussy
I think Italy seeing as they came so close this year
I like Niall Drennan’s comment that this is really a two part question, where you would like and where you actually think.
For me the like would be Iceland, Spain or Estonia. They have most times provided great entries into the competition and deserve recognition for this.
As for where I think …. hmmm that’s hard. This year I thought for sure it was going to be in the East and was wrong (although not by much). Regardless, I’m heading in that direction again. Probably Russia or Azerbaijan. But we’ll see.
This is particularly hard and exciting question for me, because hopefully, for the first time, I will go to Eurovision in 2016, and I’m more than curious to know who will win before my eyes and be the host of 2017. It will definitely be a crucial moment.
I hope I live to the day Spain wins, and hopefully it will be in ’16, so Eurovision ’17 is in Spain.
The reality: I think an Scandinavian country will win.
