SPOTLIGHT ON SA ARTISTS – KARIN BEKKER

Karin Bekker was born in Pretoria. Her passion for singing was sparked at the age of 5. She also started piano lessons at this early age.

In 2008 Karin was selected to sing in the University of Pretoria’s Jacaranda Children’s Choir and sang along with a few fellow choir members in 2010 on e-TV “live” for President Nelson Mandela during his birthday.

In 2011 Karin was part of a South African State Theater Opera Production viz. Carmen acted Bizet.Karin also obtained her UNISA , Trinity Pop & Rock and Trinity Classical Grades in Piano, Musical Theory and Vocal exams.

Karin’s gospel debut album, “Father, Son and Spirit” was released in 2014. She is also on the album “75 years celebration” from a church group.

Her music can be heard on a number of established radio stations as well as Internet radio stations. She took the No. 1 position in Springbok Internet Radio’s Top 20 and retain for nine weeks.

Her single “Friendskap” music video is now also available on YouTube and within the first week of release already 2000 views. It is also now available on Itunes and to see and on the South African satellite channel KykNet.

Karin’s warm personality and combined with her stage performance and crystal clear voice for a remarkable, very enjoyable show.
Her motto in life is Philippians 4:13: “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

She is busy on a new CD and hopefully it will contain several EUROVISION covers.

SPOTLIGHT ON SA ARTISTS – MINETTE DE BRUYN

Minette de Bruyn started singing at a very early age and music has always been a huge passion of hers. She has starred in a Musical ‘Thumbelina’ for OAK Youth Theater which was performed at the Atterbury theater . She has have also performed throughout Gauteng at different venues such as Industrial coffee works and other corporate events. She has also dominated on the South African competition scene and in 2016 she made it into the top 20 finals for ‘Sing for the Stars’ . She has performed at various theaters throughout SA including Otway’s Theater, Liedjieboer and the Barnyard theater to name a few. Not only is Minette a vocalist but also an incredible writer and pianist. She will have some of her original work released on Itunes in the next coming months and is ready to do his first Eurovision cover.

SPOTLIGHT ON SA ARTISTS – ROBERT GERBER

Robert Gerber is a 33 years oldmale singer. Yes is married with three children. He stays in Secunda and is a full time teacher. He studied theology and was in full-time ministry. His passion has always to make music and he considers himself a singer/songwriter and would like to influence the world with fresh new worship and Afrikaans songs. His first album is coming out in September 2017  and is called “whisper”. Hopefully he will keep on creating new music. Soon he will do his first Eurovision cover in Afrikaans.

SPOTLIGHT ON SA ARTISTS – MARYNA BOOYSEN

The 20 year old Maryna Booysen is a new upcoming artist from a small town, Randfontein in South-Africa.Her home language is Afrikaans. She has been taking vocal training since the age of 14 at a local Music School in her home town by the name of F.J.L Wells Musicschool. She has a rich alto voice which moves her audience and takes them on a journey afar. Her greatest inspiration is the famous female artist Adele Adkins. Maryna lives by the quotation of her idol Adele : ” I don’t make music for eyes, I make music for ears.”

Singing has always been Maryna Booysen’s greatest passion and she writes poetry in her free time. Maryna is a Psychology student at the University of South-Africa.

Her genre can be described as contemporary with an twist of rock music. Maryna sung at several events and venues of which she is still proceeding to do. She participated in local singing competitions with success. She released her first Eurovision related single “Black & White” in September 2016 of which Mad Entertainment was the company that promoted her single. Maryna is currently working on a demo album which will we finished in 2018. Maryna Booysen is also working on an Eurovision song by the name of ‘Volmaan’ which was originally sung by Norma John by the name of ‘Blackbird’. She hopes for great success with her cover.

SPOTLIGHT ON SA ARTISTS – MONE COLLYER

Moné Collyer is a young, passionate musician and singer from South Africa. She has a very unique taste in music, ranging from musical theater to metal. She has been singing since she was 12 and doesn’t plan on stopping soon.She feels most at home when she’s on stage entertaining people. She is a songwriter & loves to let her emotions flow over into her songs. She also plays acoustic & electric guitar, as well as ukulele, and loves using these instruments during her performances.

Since 2011, she has competed in many national competitions such as SATCH & Sing For The Stars. She also competes in many local competitions and is always on stage as a lead role in her school’s productions. Lately, she has been doing more live performances and has opened for artists such as Matthew Mole, Loki Rothmann & Zaretha Duvenhage (The Voice SA). She wants to get on stage any moment she can and lives for the thrill of music.

She plans to cover the 2017 Eurovision song from France, Requiem, originally sung by Alma in Afrikaans.

SPOTLIGHT ON SA ARTISTS – LUNA

Charne and Lume ( LUNA) are both individual singers who came together through their love of music. Lume has released her debut album 100 000 Love Songs available on itunes last year through Muse Productions where she worked with Hugo Ludik from the popular Afrikaans band ADAM and the famous Vaughan Gardiner. She is performing all over SA on every major festival such as KKNK and AARDKLOP and has had various radio interviews on Groot FM and Waterberg Stereo to name a few. She will be releasing her next single Reenboog in the coming months. Charne has also been singing for many years and has been actively involved in the music industry performing on some of the biggest stages in SA. She has also been a part of professional Musical productions and has had interviews with Pretoria Fm and Radio Pulpit on various projects she has been involved in .Through friendship and their love of music these two talented ladies came together and staged the show Country Hearts that recently ran at the Barnyard Theater and are planning a series of shows for 2018 throughout SA. They will be covering the Netherlands song Light and Shadows with the Afrikaans title Lig en Skadus. They call themselves LUNA

SPOTLIGHT ON SA ARTISTS – SONSKYN

Sonskyn was created when two exquisite artists Marlé Fourie and Tertius Swanepoel with the most incredible voices decided they want to do something out of the ordinary and therefore started the band Sonskyn and released their duo album called “Vat my hand” early 2017. Their album consist of ballads and energetic songs just like both artists are full of energy.

On the CD is several Eurovision covers, among them Hungary 2015, Norway 2015 and the Czech republic 2015 in Afrikaans and Estonia 2015 and Poland 2015 in English.

STOPLIGHT ON SA ARTISTS – ZAKK STYLES

Zakk Styles (Age 29), a guitarist, singer, tv presenter, song-writer, producer and audio engineer has been intimately involved in the South African music arena for over 16 years through his various musical projects and ventures. A classical Guitar trained student of the Berkley College of music he is currently fronting the hard rock band – Black Bone Nation as well as his latest indie/folk band – Arcadia. Staying involved in the advancement of emerging bands in South Africa he co-created the artist feature show – The Couch Sessions SA, where he also acts as presenter for the show.

His achievements are  Various TV show appearances (YoTV, SABC Shows) – Various radio appearances (Eden AM, The Dave Darren Show) – Classical Music Studies Graduate – Presenter/Writer/Producer/Owner for The Couch Sessions SA – Singer/Guitarist for the band – Black Bone Nation – Singer/Guitarist for the band – Arcadia – In studio with the band Black Bone Nation recording their first studio album – “For Pride & Glory” (Release – 2018) – In Studio with the band Arcadia recording their first single -“Going South” (Release – 2017) – Currently working on filming of Season 2 of The Couch Sessions SA (Release 2018) – Various live show performances across Gauteng – South Africa.

He will be doing his first Eurovision cover shortly and it is the 2017 entry from Cyprus called GRAVITY, originally sung by Hovig and composed by Thomas Gson.

SPOTLIGHT ON SA ARTISTS – HAROLD WALTBERG

Harold Waltberg started with vocal training in 2012 at the age of 17 whilst attending high school in Tzaneen, Limpopo. After high school he moved to Centurion where he attended the Open Window School of Visual Communication, studying towards a BA Degree in Graphic Design which he completed in 2015. Since then he have been working as a Marketing assistant for HANNON, a cosmetic company based in Sandton.

He has had a love for classical music from an early age since he was given his first Josh Groban album at the age of 11. This has been a great inspiration to him throughout his career and has helped to shape him as a performing artist.

When he moved to Centurion, he successfully auditioned to be accepted into CC Vocal Studios and receive further vocal training under SA Tenor Chris Coetzer. During this time he had the opportunity to attend various functions and concerts with Chris Coetzer and accompany him on his shows, learning the essentials of performing.

After his time with Chris Coetzer he joined the Centurion Performance Academy and received classical training under well-known Classical Vocal Coach, Jolanda Becker. He is presently still being trained by Jolanda Becker.

He has had the opportunity to perform at various events such as Innibos as well as a variety of other festivals. He has planned and arranged solo concerts as well, and recently launched his first album featuring songs from the likes of Josh Groban, Phil Coulter and Elvis Costello.

He has also recently launched his own professional digital platform in the form of a website (www.haroldwaltberg.co.za) which gives further information on his career as well as snippets of the songs from his album and images of himself.

Harold will be one of the duet members of HARLIND, who plans to cover CROATIA 2017, MY FRIEND. As a solo artist, he is looking at covering in Afrikaans the 2012 song of ESTONIA, KUULA by Ott Lepland.

SPOTLIGHT ON SA ARTISTS – AMY CELINE LIND

Amy Celine Lind is a young yet accomplished actress and singer who has in a short time gained invaluable experience and deepened her passion for the arts.

Her numerous theatrical credits include ‘The Three Little Pigs’ and ‘The Pied Piper’ with the Pretoria Youth Theater, ‘Cinderella’ with Oak Youth Theatre, ‘96000’, ‘Follicle the Musical’ and ‘Swing Swing Swing’ with FAD Inc., ‘Beauty and the Beast’ and ‘Once Upon a Mattress’. She also successfully completed a one year Industry Mentorship Program with FAD Inc.

Amy is a gifted lyrical soprano vocalist who regularly performs at various festivals, corporate and fundraising events. Some of her clients include Amersfoort Festival, CANSA, Ermelo Doctors Board, Diamag Electronics and Metson Agricultural.

This beautiful performer is an all-round artist who sings, dances and acts not only in theatre but also on screen. Her commercial credits include ‘Firestone’ and ‘Nedbank’, she has worked on ‘7de Laan’ and ‘Binnelanders’ as well as the film feature ‘The Loft House’.

Amy Celine is a passionate and talented actress, vocalist and voice artist with determination to perform well, always improve and pursue a successful career in the arts industry.

She will be part of the duo HARLIND and they plan to cover Croatia 2017, MY FRIEND, the Jacques Houdek song.
