IT’S HEROES FOR SWEDEN

The final of Melodifestivalen, the massive selection spectacular from Sweden, was held in the Friends Arena in Stockholm tonight where the winner was decided between 12 entries chosen from the various selection rounds.

After an evening of flying ghosts, snow, group selfies, wind machines and key changes, the winner was finally declared. Måns Zelmerlöw will represent Sweden in Vienna with his song Heroes.

The song stood out from the very beginning due to the extremely clever staging and will certainly be a fan favourite this year. Måns is also no stranger to Melodifestivalen, having tried out in previous years with entries such as Hope and Glory, as well as Cara Mia.

We wish Måns all the best in Vienna.

DON’T DENY ARMENIA

Armenia have been teasing Eurovision fans with news about their entry from some time now, slowly announcing the various members of the band Genealogy, the group who will be representing the Armenian entry in Vienna.

Today ARMTV, the Armenian broadcaster finally revealed the final member of the group, along with the actual entry – Don’t Deny.

Genealogy are formed by 6 singers. 5 of the singers are from various regions of the world. They are Essaï Altounian, Stephanie Topalian, Vahe Tilbian, Mary-Jean O’Doherty Vasmatzian and Tamar Kaprelian and they come from Europe, Asia, America, Africa, and Australia and each have Armenian heritage. The 6th singer, Inga Arshakyan, comes from Armenia itself.

What do you think of Don’t Deny? Will we be celebrating in Yerevan next year?

IT’S MARIA FOR GREECE

Last night, the Greek broadcaster Nerit, held the 2015 EuroSong final to choose the Greek entry for Vienna. After an hour of performances by past Greek Eurovision entries, including the 2005 winner Helena Paparizou reprising her entry My Number One, 5 contestants took to the stage.

After a round of televoting, the winner was revealed as Maria Helena Kyriakou with her entry One Last Breath and will be performing in the first half of the first Semi-Final.

Good luck Greece!

Guy Sebastian – The Australian Eurovision Entry

Today Guy Sebastian was announced as the Australian Performer for the Wild Card entry of the 60th Anniversary for the Eurovision Song Contest in Vienna, Austria.

There was a lot of discussion about who would represent Australia and this morning the speculation ended with the SBS announcement. In the article below I have included a brief history of Guy’s songs that I have loved through his career so far. I’ve included YouTube Clips and I believe that they really show his abilities as an amazing performer (Don’t mind the ads at the start of the clips).

I remember watching Guy on Television on Australian Idol in 2003. Back then I thought he had an amazing voice. I followed his journey though to the finale and thought he was a very deserving winner with his song “Angels bought me here”. As you can see from the Clip below, other than his great voice, he was sporting a fantastic Afro, aptly named the “fro” that was sort of his trademark for a while.

After winning Australian Idol in 2003 he released an album in 2004 with a hit single “Out with My Baby”. I really like this song and believe that it showcases his more RnB ability. Note also he is still sporting his “fro”

Between 2004 and 2010, Guy was very active as a performer achieving many awards and really coming into his own as a true success for his career. Over that period he worked with many artists. In 2010 he released another album, featuring the single “Like it like that”. Note “fro” is covered by a beanie.

Shortly after this he worked with Jordan Sparks to make the single “the art of Love”, which is a very beautiful song. His hair covered by a hat, but I think the “fro” is on the way out”

Between 2010 and 2011 Guy worked supported and worked with many amazing talents and was also a Judge on X-Factor in Australia. He also released and album featuring the single “who’s that girl”. This is a little different from his usual songs as it features Eve (who is a US rapper). His hair is also covered by a hat in this clip but I definitely think the “fro” is going.

In the years between 2011 and 2013 Guy continued to mentor on X-Factor Australia and released another album with another great single called “Don’t worry be happy”. In this clip he looks amazing and is now “fro”-less.

Also on this album he worked with Lupe Fiasco and created another song called “battle scars”

From then until now, Guy has released another album featuring many great songs. Some of the ones that I think are great are,

 “like a drum”

“Come home with me”

http://youtu.be/pPzxHrg6-9Y

“Linger”

http://youtu.be/jk3Oe-2LmLk

These are just a few of the many song that I have really enjoyed from Guy Sebastian over his career so far. As far as him being a contestant in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015, I think he’ll do a great job of it. He has had a lot of experience and his musical repertoire covers many genres and styles.

More Importantly if you look back at the film clips, he has experience with what makes a great Eurovision Song in “Angles bought me here” – his winning song on Australian Idol, there’s a sparks curtain and confetti cannons. Looking at his more recent work “come home with me” with the acrobatic dancers and smoke machines.

That ticks a lot of boxes for a great Eurovision Song, so I look forward to seeing what song will be chosen for him to sing when its released in the coming weeks.

IT’S AMINATA FOR LATVIA

Last night, the Final of Supernova took place, choosing the Latvian entry for the Eurovision Song Contest 2015. Four finalists took part in the show and in the end Aminata Savadogo took the crown and will be flying the Latvian flag in Vienna with her entry Love Injected.

Aminata missed out on representing Latvia last year when she came 5th in the national selection show which was won by Aarzemneiki. Will 2015 be Latvia’s year? Will they reach the Final in Vienna?

CYPRUS HAS CHOSEN! GIANNIS KARAGIANNIS FOR VIENNA

Last night, Cyprus held the Grand Final of their national selection show, The Eurovision Song Project in Nicosia. The final consisted of six contestants (whittled down from the original 60 entries vying to represent Cyprus) and votes consisted of both Jury Votes and the Public who finally announced the winner as Giannis Karagiannis with his entry One Thing I Should Have Done.
What do you think off the Cypriot entry for Vienna?

LONDON EUROVISION PARTY RETURNS FOR 2015

logo_bgr
The annual London Eurovision Preview Party is set to return on April 26th, giving fans in the UK a chance to see some of the performers from this year’s Eurovision Song Contest live. The party will return to the same venue as last year, Cafe de Paris. The glittering venue is located right in the heart of the West End.

Last year’s party saw 12 artists from the 2014 Eurovision Song Contest perform, including Ruth Lorenzo of Spain, Freaky Fortune from Greece, Aram MP3 from Armenia and of course the winner of Eurovision 2014, Conchita Wurst of Austria. Other acts also performed, including 1973 winner Anne-Marie David, Marcin Mrozinski of Poland (2010) and Linda Martin of Ireland (1984 and 1992).

It is too early to know who will be performing this year, however ESCCovers will be attending and asking your questions to the contestants. Who do you want to see perform?
