AFRIKAANS COVER OF BELGIUM 2010

Just in time before Eurovision 2015 is the Afrikaans cover of Belgium 2010 ME AND MY GUITAR originally sung by Tom Dice.

The Afrikaans is a direct translation and is called EK EN MY KITAAR. The singer is DIVAN VAN WYK, a grade 12 pupil at Florida Hoerskool. Last year he won the school’s Idol contest. He has a bright future in the recording industry ahead of him.

ANOTHER SPECIAL COMPILATION FOR VIENNA

Yes, we are really into the groove of showcasing just how many songs have been covered in South Africa and this compilation has been done on the request of some SWEDISH composers – this is to once again remind Eurovision fans that it is a SONG CONTEST and a good song can be sung by any artist in any language. This compilation also highlight just how success Swedish composers are as it feature Eurovision songs they have written for countries other than Sweden. Gerry from the USA once again created a special cover design.

KATRINA AND THE WAVES IN SOUTH AFRICA

Often an artist from Eurovision visits South Africa but the media hardly give attention to it. The latest is KATRINA AND THE WAVES who are in South Africa and I did not even know it until yesterday. They are part of a show called BACK TO THE 80’s and it is on at several of the casino’s around South Africa. Cole van Dais was one of the backing singers at the show on 31 January at Carnival City and she informed me that Katrina and the waves were part of the show. Other people who are here are the likes of Billy Ocean, Hazel Dean, Nick Kershaw and M People.

ARTICLE IN RAPPORT – SUNDAY 11 January 2015

Rapport, the biggest Afrikaans Sunday paper, published an article over Eurovision and the covering of songs in Afrikaans yesterday. One of their journalists HERMAN SCHOLTZ phoned me during last week and wrote the article. Here is the link to the article on line. It is in Afrikaans and I will publish separately an English translation of the article.
You can find the article online here:
