Back to Latvia, my favourite country and one of their best entries – 2003 HELLO FROM MARS by F L Y. The Afrikaans cover is by Nadia Louw and Hugo Nieuwoudt.
Israel is up next and it is their 1979 winning song HALLELUJAH sung by Gali Atari with milk and honey. The Afrikaans cover was a big hit for the brothers Innes & Franna Benade
We are finally half way and it is time for ICELAND again. It is their 2008 entry THIS IS MY LIFE from EUROBAND. The Afrikaans cover is by Jasmyn and Ricky Faber.
We are staying with the theme of “peace”and move to GERMANY 1982 with the winner than year – EIN BISSCHEN FRIEDEN sung by 17 year old Nicole. There are tons of covers of this song in almost every language possible but in the end, we decided on the Afrikaans cover by GERRIE PRETORIUS.
With some much tension in the world and wars, lets now go to the 2008 song of GEORGIA, PEACE WILL COME sung by Diana Gurtskaya. The cover on the celebration compilation will be by COLE AND DAIS in duet with MARC RANTSELI and it is in 4 languages – Afrikaans, English, Spanish and Zulu.
Time for an old favourite now, the 1976 entry from FRANCE – UN, DEUZ, TROIS originally sung by Catherine Ferry. In South Africa the song was both covered in English and Afrikaans. We are using the Afrikaans cover by GLENYS LYNNE.
FINLAND has been in the news after their 2015 selection, so next up is a song from that country. It is their 2009 song LOOSE CONTROL originally sung by WALDO’S PEOPLE. The Afrikaans cover is by MONIQUE STEYN and SNOTKOP.
Lets now runaway to the next song, it is from ESTONIA, their 2002 entry RUNAWAY sung bu SAHLENE and covered by JENNY KIRSTEN who sort of disappeared from the scene as we have not heard new songs from her for at least 5 years.
Its Denmark up next and their 2010 song IN A MOMENT LIKE THIS sung by Chanee and N’evergreen. The cover of this in South Africa has become the biggest Eurovision cover ever in terms if sales – multi platinum.
