A NORWEGIAN REACTION TO THE 2024 SWEDISH EUROVISION FINAL

Morten Thomassen from Norway gives his reaction to the 2024 Swedish Eurovision final. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

This is a blog entry and represents only writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.

Finally we are ready for one of the highlights of the year for many ESC fans, namely the Swedish final, where we know we will get a well-produced show and that the winner will be mentioned among the favorites to win this year.

And should the person who gets to travel all the way to Malmö make it, our Swedish friends will become world champion in the ESC, they will then have won 8 victories and you should never ignore that it will happen.

But, first, 12 songs will fight to give Sweden this world record and I have an opinion about these songs, and one of the exciting moments tonight is whether there will be a Norwegian, Ukrainian or Swedish victory, here anything can happen and you will not surprised that the show starts in a very cool way, this country is already world champions in hosting national finals, the next natural step is therefore to become world champion in number of wins and it will happen, trust me.

Melody 1 – Maria Sur –

Maybe it’s nerves that do it, but I’m not particularly impressed by the vocal performance here, the last gear, even several gears are somehow missing. But, the show itself looks good, if a little too dark for my taste and I think the song itself has a nice structure and development. Maybe a bit slow as an opening song, but that’s not the artist’s fault.

Melody 2 – Jay Smith –

Perhaps the most surprising participant tonight, but it is not surprising that he sings well, this seems like a guy who has quite a few hours behind him on a stage. For me, it’s the song that drags me down here, decent and OK performance notwithstanding, I find the song really boring and bland and it gives me very little unfortunately.

Melody 3 – Lisa Ajax –

Always delicious with a big, swelling and melancholic ballad, it often gets me on the notes. Fortunately, the artist manages to perform the song with the fervor and power in the vocals that such a song needs. Unfortunately, it lacks the intensity in the performance that a song like this needs, she seems quite disinterested and it drags me down, sadly the song needed that fervor.

Melody 4 – Smash Into Pieces –

A bit of rock is always welcome, and these are guys who know what they’re doing and it’s tough and intense, and then I’m only talking about the vocals. The stage show is also of the cool and intense kind, so everything should be fine then, right? Well, here I think the song is fairly bland and I find it simply boring and unexciting.

Melody – Cocks Opeia –

A color bomb of an artist and not surprisingly a color bomb of a performance. I don’t get knocked into the ground vocally, but it does for me. There is an earnestness and underlying joy in the song that I fall for and I can’t help but smile when I see this performance. This is actually a little lucky pill.

Melody 6 – Annika Wickihalder –

I still think the costume is a bit boring, but that’s also the only thing I find boring about this performance. This girl has steel control on the vocals and also puts a lot of fervor and strength into her performance so that it almost becomes a bit of a hallelujah atmosphere. Big and powerful song performed in the way such a song should be performed.

Melody 7 – Marcus & Martinus –

Norwegian favorites in the Swedish final almost unheard of, but actually true. The number is very nice and super cool and now these Nordic boys have actually brought out the charm we all know they possess. Vocally this almost holds up, has a bit to go on there, but when everything else is so well done I can live with it and finally I’ll join this team.

Melody 8 – Daughter –

We slow down considerably and it can’t be very easy to catch up with the big favourite. Personally, I think there is a bit of a clash between the costume and the song, but I’ll leave it at that. The song is beautifully melancholic and is performed with good vocals and a good amount of fervor that suited the song perfectly. This is pure pleasure for me.

Melody 9 – Medina –

Only song in Swedish, but the melody itself is not particularly Swedish, but it does show how international the Swedish music scene is. You try really hard to create a party on stage, but I feel that you don’t quite succeed in that area. Both vocally and effort-wise, it’s a bit strained and strained parties rarely take off completely, even if they try intensely here.

Melody 10 – Liamoo –

A song to get on fire and blaze simply. Here, too, we are served melancholic undertones and that combined with a guy who can sing and who delivers the song with the strength and intensity such a song must have. Dig the cool structure this song has, this was super powerful and very well delivered.

Melody 11 – Jacqline –

The evening’s disco queen and then it’s no wonder that things really swing on stage. I don’t think the costume changes as much and since the lady has been ill lately, the vocal effort is approved, but a little too complicated for such a song. Unfortunately, the performance lacks the energy needed and this was simply dull and not very intense.

Melody 12 – Danny Saucedo –

If anyone deserves to win due to past bravado, it should be this guy who takes home the win, but I don’t think the people who vote care that much. Safe and good vocals notwithstanding, for me it is the song that disappoints here. I think it sometimes becomes hectic and bland, and then it doesn’t help with a cool stage show.

Then I got to use almost the entire spectrum on the cube and then you wait in excitement for what the rest of this Mello evening will bring, you can almost expect some intense halftime shows, the Swedes can do this.

Cool dress though, I think she who leads the show becomes a bit of a gray mouse in this context, she is a bit more strict teacher than someone who leads Sweden’s presumably most watched TV show, makes me look forward to Petra Mede leading ESC again .

The first halftime feature is a parody of a boy band and it’s actually pretty funny and they get the audience going, that’s what a halftime feature should essentially do.

The international juries from 8 countries have had their say and it is Marcus and Martinus who have taken a clear lead with a whopping 39 points, is this really going to go their way, it may seem that way, but the Swedish people may want it completely different, the will be exciting for a few more minutes.

Otherwise, we can probably state that humor in Mello rarely works very well, what’s wrong with a cool intermission feature with old hits, well we didn’t get that, just a stupid song in my opinion then, but the audience in the hall seems to like this like that fit.

And there our Nordland boys got a landslide of points and won superiorly and they create history by being Norwegian representatives for Sweden, what a cool thing and what a cool song, here, now it will be exciting about who will win the Norwegian match in Malmö, hello Norway.
