ANDANTE ANDANTE – SONG THIRTEEN

I’m your music, I’m your song, play me time and time again.

It is no secret that ANDANTE ANDANTE is my favourite ABBA song. It is quite interesting that the song was not as big a hit for ABBA in other countries but in South Africa is is regarded as one of the classics and many local singers have covered it.

The question here is which song (Eurovision or other) is one of those songs you want to PLAY TIME AND TIME AGAIN.

For me it is BIRDS OF PARADISE by Swiss group PETER SUE & MARC. I love most of their songs but this song is my number 1 song of all time (even although it dates back to 1982) and there is not a week that I do not play it at least once.

  1. It’s really interesting… I have never heard about this song before… So thank you for putting this on on the list too, my ABBA-knowledge has been increased 🙂

I play time and time again 2007’s Swedish entry, The Ark – The Worrying Kind. This song could be my ars poetica. Sometimes, when I’m nervous and listening to this song, I remind myself with that the problem is smaller than it seemed first…

But there are many many songs which I listen to time by time, depending on my mood. (Silent Storm, when I feel lonely; Birds when I feel sad; every other ESC hit when I’m happy)

  2. I don’t really know Andante Andante either actually.

The one Eurovision song I can listen to all the time is probably Poupée de cire poupée de son (1965). I actually remember one day having it on repeat, and my boyfriend got home, and after maybe 3 times of it playing he yelled at me for having the same song playing over and over haha

  3. Ohhh. Here is an Abba song I don’t think I’ve heard either.
This is quite the difficult question for me, there are so many!!
I tend to really go for the euphoric sound (see what I did there, so clever). So anything uplifting gets a high number of plays on my iPod. Soo
    Take me to your heaven
    Shady lady
    La voix
    Je Ne se pas
    In a moment like this
    What about my dreams
    Je t’adore
    It’s all about you
I could go on all day!!
this particular group with a few added extras are played at every party we have, even our not really Eurovision inclined friends now love them! We’ve even been known to send messages with us singing them to our lovely overseas euro friends (sorry tamas). That being said, I can’t really listen to any song on repeat, it drives me bonkers.

  4. There are too many to choose from. I love Waterloo and Robinson and My little World – I grew up with this song and it brings back memories. Plus if I need to be uplifted it is Conchita with Rise like a Phoenix. Due to recent events I will go with Rise like a Phoenix. I actually played it over and over again driving to and from work for a couple of weeks .

  5. Sanomi by Urban Trad is one of my family’s all time favourites! We love to belt it out on car trips – even though its in a made up language and noone is *quite* sure of the words, that doesn’t stop us!

  6. The answer is MANY.

From ABBA I chose The Winner Takes It All and Dancing Queen as my all time favourites.
I can play these songs time and time again.

Other songs outside Eurovision … many, many more 🙂

But two songs that stand out on my mind are:
    1) Nat King Cole’s Around The World

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=77ZFlN3vQEs

and 2) Louis Armstrong’s We Have All The Time In The World.

Beautiful songs. Simple, yet very imaginative.

They have “sweep me off my feet” effect, it doesn’t matter how many times I’ve listened to it.

  7. So many songs that could fit this category… I suppose the most recent would be Golden Boy from Israel this year, and probably also Adio from Montenegro

  8. As a big Abba fan – I have always had a soft spot for the Album track ‘ Move On’ it has such lovely lyrics and is an unusual Abba track with Benny’s vocals on the verses. I remember hearing it for the first time, and I had this crazy idea that Abba had brought in a traditional Spanish lady for the closing backing la la la la vocals. Of course this was something Abba would never do during their studio recording at all
    ?
Yet I was just convinced it was not Agnetha or Frida singing that Spanish part when in fact it was all along them.

To pick a Eurovision song is so hard so I took one past and one present. In fact the classic favourite of mine is Vicky Leandros winner ‘Come What May’ from 1972. I particularly like the English version as it was a top hit in the UK. As well as being different lyrics from the original French lyric, it a song we often put repeat at home.
A lot more recent favourite I would go for Cyprus and Iva Adamou in 2012 with ‘La la Love’ a great example of when the song and performance come together so perfectly.. oh and more La La La as well I guess I must have a bit of a soft spot for the La’s !!

  9. When I first read the question I went straight to my iTunes music player and saw which songs I played most. It was no surprise that 9 out of 10 were from the Balkan area. I love my Balkan pop just way too much. I am one of those people who listen to a song nonstop for a week then get totally bored of it, but saying that I do have a treasure of trove of songs I like to listen to regularly.

“Šutim” by Mensur Salkić represented Bosnia & Herzegovina at the 2014 Türkvizyon and since that time it has been one of my most favourite songs. Every time I hear the melody, it just takes me back to Sarajevo. I really love that city and listening to it takes me back. I can feel the Balkans, immerse in the language and lyrics and the music is pleasant. It’s a song for me that suits any mood I’m, when I want something upbeat to dance or walk along to it’s the perfect choice, when I want something ethnic, it fits the bill… if I’m feeling a bit down it just makes me feel better.

When it comes to a Eurovision song I want to play time and time again it would be “Angel si ti” by Miro who represented Bulgaria in 2010. It’s just an amazing strong, takes me up the heavens, drama-packed and uplifting! I also love dance music, have a soft spot for Sofia (the capital of Bulgaria) and it’s catchy to the max even though he’s saying “o” for most of the choruses. Simple but effective!

    1. Lukman Miro was such a nice person. I have a ANGEL SI TI t-shirt. I think maybe Bulgarian people are big as I have a medium t-shirt but it looks like triple X – maybe the labels were wrong. on the other hand I have a t-shirt from MALTA which say extra Large but I barely get into it.

  10. Like others before me said, it is very difficult to pick one song that I would like to play over and over again. Since the theme is ABBA, I would say “Happy New Year!”. It’s a song that I listen to only at or around New Year’s Eve but I do it every single year and will probably continue doing so for the rest of my life. Just like the brits (and other English speaking countries) have their Auld Lang Syne, the Swedes have “Happy New Year!”. I wish there was a Swedish version of the lyrics though.

  11. There are many Eurovision songs that I listen to regularly, most of which are from the last decade or so. But if I had to choose that one, special song that I consistently circle back to, it would have to be Crystal by Stevie Nicks.

I first heard Crystal in the movie Practical Magic and immediately fell in love with it. Whenever I’m feeling down or blue, or if everything around me seems to be spinning out of control, I listen to that song and all of the noise and confusion just fades away until I’m completely still, and the only thing left is the song.

  12. A Eurovision song which comes into my head quite regularly (and which I then play very very often) is Lithuania’s 2006 entry “We Are The Winners” by LT United. It might not be the most popular of songs, but there’s something about it that I can’t get enough of.

    1. We are the winners is such a great title but this song has too little lyrics for me to listen to it alot.

  13. Nice Song, it was originally titled ‘Hold Me Close’, and at first only released in Latin America. I like how the song has an Italian sound and the tempo matches the title, it means gently, slowly, or at a walking pace.

    1. Interesting that it was only released in LATIN AMERICA and under another title. It is a classic in SOUTH AFRICA and I am surprised that many EUROPEAN people are unaware of the song.

  14. I tend to play the more fast paced songs most, to help me keep my pace up in the gym. I usually play the previous years songs on my ipod until I am sick of them and by then usually the next years songs start getting released. Lately I have been listening to Tooji’s song quite a lot. From last years competition Grande Amore has really grown on me. All time favorite though – anything Jedward!

  15. For me, my song is probably Kenny Rogers “Sweet Music Man.” While not ESC at all, it calms my soul in times of trouble.

  16. My absolute favourite Eurovision song of all time would have to be Rise Like a Phoenix. It inspired me to make some changes in my life and every time I listen to it it encourages me to do better. Here’s a fun fact – I once listened to it on repeat for 20 minutes!!!!

  17. For me it is Romania’s song ‘Change’ by Hotel FM from 2011. I used it for my election campaign song when I wanted to be elected to local government in my city. As the lyrics say “take a step, make a difference and change the world”. We should all do this.

  18. Oh my lord… I have completely missed this!!!! Soooo… I am one of those weird people who love Eurovision songs to the point that I still listen to them years later… Granted, not on repeat. I must admit I have always, since a child, loved Puppet On A String by Sandie Shaw, and to this day it is still heard on party playlists.
However I feel I need to mention Take Me To Your Heaven, which was the very first ex-Eurovision song I heard when legitimately partying in a nightclub. And still love to hear it!

  19. If there is one Eurovision song that I can listen to over and over again it has to be Is It True by Johanna (Iceland 2009). It is a contemporary ballad with a wonderful string arrangement that soars throughout the song. Johanna’s vocals are flawless and it is one song that I can listen to on repeat without getting bored of it.

  20. This was a tough question as it was clouded by a “what song do i think i like the most” type of thinking…..so i went straight to the data and checked the “top 25 most played” list on my phone and was actually surprised as they weren’t the songs i was thinking of.
    Here is my top 5.
    1) Euphoria
    2) Amanecer
    3) Straight into Love
    4) Glorious
    5) Woki Mit deim popo
