ESC Covers start the Eurovision 2024 countdown from position 37 to the top place. We are using the review of Morten Thomassen from Norway. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

This is a blog entry and represents only writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.

A country that has really struggled in recent years is our German friends, before this year’s competition they only had one year since 2015 in which they did not come in 25th place or worse, so in that sense this year’s 12th place must simply feel like an ever so small victory.

You just have to wonder why such a large country with such a large music industry does so poorly in this competition, perhaps you think that you are struggling to get hold of the artists and creators of songs that could do well in this competition, unfortunately also have a feeling that when voting takes place in their national final someone manages to attract such a large part of the points that are awarded, it is probably simply due to the fact that the national final has so few who vote that such things can happen.

Initially, there probably weren’t many people who had all the faith in the world in Isaak, but with a scene full of fire and flames, he ignited something, first of all with the juries, who warmed them so much that they gave him a whopping 99 points and then we probably get our German friend would rather live with the fact that the people only thought he deserved 18 points.

I would like to believe that what made the juries in particular captivated by this song was an artist with a simply raw voice who in a great way ensured that the song was performed with the emotion and strength such a song requires, in addition I think that what happened on stage with all the flames managed to make this a watchable song as well, even if the song itself is perhaps not the most exciting.

On a personal level, I feel that the artist could perhaps have stood out a bit more in terms of costume, there was a lot of black here, but it is precisely such things that perhaps jury members do not allow themselves to be put off as easily as I am.

Are our German friends perhaps on the right track now, or will they be back at the bottom again next year, there is always a moment of tension with this country.
