A whole 31 years after they last participated, our friends from Luxembourg came back, this country which was actually a major power in our competition with a total of 5 victories, the last all the way back to 1983, of course, but in any case it’s very nice that they are back.
All victories for this country have happened with “foreigners” as artists and in many ways both Luxembourg and also Monaco actually France 2 and France 3 in the competition so then it was very good that when they finally returned they were proven to send someone with the citizenship in order.
Tali obviously had, even though she also had clear links to Israel, a fact she avoided far too many complications with, because in her semi-final she received points from all countries.
In the final itself, the link to Israel became much more obvious, full reporting from that country both from the people and the jury meant that over 20% of the 113 points she collected came from this country and otherwise she received almost 4 times as many points from the people as from the jury obviously saw a song with popular appeal.
I would call this a fairly standard rhythmic pop song that alternates between French and English lyrics without being particularly confusing and with an almost annoyingly catchy rhythm and vocals that have little to complain about, it’s understandable that a lot of people thought this was something to vote on.
Compared to the really good ones at such performances, perhaps what we got to see appeared a bit sloppy, but it was performed in a safe and decent way and luckily this country has already announced that they will be performing next year too, one can hope that this successful return entices other countries back that we haven’t seen in a while.
