Morten Thomassen from Norway started reported on the final positions of the 37 entries in the 2023 Eurovision song contest. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.
This is a blog entry and represents only writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.
Our Swiss friend Remo Forrer made it to the final with a 7th place in his semi-final and that must be said to be a good position all the while his song perhaps had more jury potential than popular potential.
Because when the verdict for the song “Watergun” was to be settled in terms of points after the final, it turned out that the juries, with the exception of one point, were twice as happy with this song as the people.
This country had a difficult decade in the 2010s with few final places, while the next decade has been very good with final places every year and the podium two years ago shows that they may have found the formula and the formula seems to be young men to sing his contribution something 21-year-old Remo must be said to be.
The song he sang can’t be said to be among the most exciting we’ve ever heard, it’s probably a bit more 13 in the dozen type, but then they make the smart move of choosing top shelf when it comes to how the song should appear on the TV screen.
This made the song much more interesting in my opinion and even though this was a rather dark number, it stood out enough for enough people to vote for it and that the song at least made it to the final.
There were probably a little too many much stronger songs for this song to stand out enough to make it big and then you still end up so far down the results list.
Young Mr. Forrer had an impeccable vocal and probably also had the right empathy in the performance, but if he had wanted to get higher on the results list he should have had a more exciting and unique song than the one he had with him in his luggage.
In terms of results in the final, this country has a downward trend so maybe try something other than young men next year?
