Morten Thomassen ends of his 37 discussion of the 37 songs of the 2023 Eurovision song. He kept Norway for last. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.
Right after the Norwegian final in February, as you can see, there was a good atmosphere and on the same day that the rehearsals start in Liverpool, it is appropriate to end the series with all years’ contestant songs with our own and, as most of you know, Alessandra will be a first to be allowed to practice on stage by this year’s artists.
As things stand now, an earthquake of epic proportions is needed for her not to be able to perform her song in almost 2 weeks, on Saturday 13 May.
What do I think about Norway’s chances this year, are we “as usual” a bit optimistic, or will our optimism finally pay off?
There may not be very many people who believe that Alessandra can win, at the time of writing we are in 6th place with only a 4% chance of winning, so we should let it go for a week and then see if the odds have Norway at the same level, then we have had a glimpse of the rehearsals and know a little more about which songs are on stage and who is struggling a bit on the same stage.
In my opinion, it is not entirely unthinkable that we can win, I feel that we possibly have exactly the song that is the smallest common multiple among the songs of the year, in most areas of an ESC performance we manage to find a contribution that is better than the Norwegian, but when we combine all the elements in such a performance, it may actually be Norway that comes out best in the end.
Sweden’s song will be compared to Loreen’s previous winning song “Euphoria” and perhaps fall a little flat in comparison and Finland’s song, however tough it is, may be a little too much of a good thing for a little too many.
Ukraine, I feel, does not have a strong enough song to take it all the way in, unlike the song they won with last year and France may struggle to produce a stage show that supports the song well enough and Spain is perhaps too Spanish?
If this turns out, Norway may actually have a chance to win and we should not forget that Alessandra won the international jury in the final in Norway, but now she faces a lot of strong opposition in the international final, so the jury’s support may also disappear in whole or in part .
In any case, I hope that everyone who will vote will be dazzled by an artist who has a confidence and power that she really makes shine on stage, such qualities will always go a long way.
