Portugal began their search to find the Eurovision 2023 representative with the first semi-final of Festival da Canção.
10 acts performed and seven progressed through to the final. Six acts were originally scheduled to qualify but because of a technical problem with a televoting line for Esse Povo, they were automatically put in to the final. The other qualifiers were determined by jury and one act by as an audience wildcard.

- Mimicat – Ai Coração (Oh heart)
- You Can’t Win, Charlie Brown – Contraste Mudo (Mute contrast)
- NEON SOHO – Endless World – audience wildcard
- Esse Povo – Sapatos de Cimento (Cement shoes)
