ALMOST REACHING THE TOP AT EUROVISION – 2015

Morten Thomassen talks today about the 2015 Eurovision song contest when Russia ended in second place behind Sweden. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

Now we will visit the last year where each country only gave out a score where the jury and audience votes together made up the votes from each individual country.

We are naturally talking about 2015, which is the last year with a Nordic victory, Russian Polina Gagarina was 62 points short of overtaking  Swedish Måns Zelmerløw for the victory.

However, she beat the cream puffs from Italy in the group Il Volo, who many thought would take home the victory.

These guys won the televoting pretty clearly, while Måns won the jury vote even more clearly, and that’s how the victory turns out.

The song “A Million Voices” was awarded third and second place by the jury and the public, respectively, and that’s how you secure second place.

One can only wonder if, if Russia had won this year, Ukraine could have performed the song “1944” with which they won, but that is just speculation anyway.

Polina was obviously not very upset about having lost to Måns, together they recorded the song “Circles and Squares” for the World Figure Skating Championships in 2021.

It is questionable whether Måns is very proud of this since it has subsequently turned out that Polina did not just attended a jubilee concert for the annexation of Crimea now in 2022 and has expressed support for the ongoing invasion and war in Ukraine.

She had a bit of a booing concert against her during the final in Vienna, don’t dare think about how it would be now if, contrary to conjecture, sometime in the future she were to represent Russia again in the ESC.
