Andreas in Vienna  reported that in the summer of 2022 SISTER ACT will open as a musical with STELLA JONES in the lead role. Stella represented AUSTRIA at the 1995 Eurovision song contest with DIE WELT DRECH SICH VERKEHRT.

A “heavenly” musical on the rock stage Staatz!

In the summer of 2022, the Felsenbühne Staatz will stage a “heavenly” musical with SISTER ACT, based on the 1992 film of the same name starring Whoopi Goldberg. For the stage version, the successful composer Alan Menken, who has already written the music for numerous Disney musicals (BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, ALADDIN,…), created a completely new composition, full of wit and esprit.

Artistic director Werner Auer will stage the play again as an impressive open-air production on the rock stage in Staatz.

When nightclub singer Deloris van Cartier witnesses a murder committed by her sleazy lover and crime boss Curtis Shank, she is placed under house arrest by the police for her own protection and hidden in a nunnery so she can testify against Curtis as a key witness.

At first she still had problems getting used to the staid monastery life, but she soon discovered that she could help the unedifying nuns’ choir musically along the way. From now on, gospel sounds not only lure the faithful back to church in droves – Curtis and his accomplices also find out about them through the media reports..
