Morten Thomassen from Norway wrote about his thoughts over the 2022 Eurovision winner. ESC Covers google translated it into English.
Well another international final was over and the winner was the country that has been predicted to win for almost three months now.
I should really have been overjoyed because this has finally ended up being my favorite song this year, but this is probably a victory with an ever so small aftertaste.
I have noticed that many fans did not quite like that it looked like a song would win more because of sympathy and less because of the song’s qualities.
Now there are many 12-points that are released due to other things than the quality of the song then, in recent years we in Norway have been very generous to Lithuania.
It is hardly because of our hot feelings for music from this country, it is probably more hot feelings for their own country that the fairly large number of Lithuanians living in Norway have that has made us have this as a “favorite country” in this the competition.
But, back to this year’s winner Ukraine, let’s now add the fact that many voted with heart, what is now wrong with it really, maybe for once it was right.
Perhaps it was more important to take such considerations into account than to let the head decide completely, now the whole continent we live in has given the attacking country Russia a giant musical finger and said loud and clear that Ukraine is our friend and definitely one of us.
In the coming weeks, of course, the debate will rage about where next year’s final will take place and perhaps not least which country will get the credit for holding the final.
It is possible that the Ukrainians themselves hope that they themselves can hold it next year, well only the future will show it, let them now celebrate a little first.
