2021 Eurovision in review

NORTH MACEDONIA

Vasil – ‘Here I Stand’

Vasil’s ‘here I stand’ plays like something that would be more at home on a West end or Broadway, rather than Eurovision stage.

All the hallmarks are here, the deliberate slowly articulated delivery of every word of the song and the exaggerated facial and body language gestures to ensure that the emotion and meaning of the song are delivered to the back of the auditorium.

Both in terms of song structure and delivery, the song very much reminds of Kobi Marimi’s 2018 ‘Home’.  There is certainly little to fault in either performance, but that didn’t end well for Israel and unless this year’s juries are drawn in numbers to the strong vocal performance, expect the same fate for North Macedonia in 2021
