Gjon’s Tears – ‘Tout l’Univers’

Since its release a few days ago, ‘Tout l’Univers’ has been attracting a steady and growing number of fans, to the extent that at the time of writing (mid March) the song is favourite to win Eurovision 2021 with the bookmakers.

This is certainly different enough to stand out from the crowd and in that respect comparisons with Salvador Sobral – ‘Amar Pelos Dois’ will be inevitable.  The more you listen, the more you grow to like this.

In common with Barbara Pravi, full use is made of the rhythmic nature of the French language to produce a song that is both mysterious and yet highly accessible at the same time.

Whether the song will be able to retain its front runner status up to the start of the contest remains to be seen, but certainly Switzerland will be looking forward to a good result in Rotterdam.
