FInally Morten Thomassen reached the number 1 song from the 2022 Eurovision song contest. ESC Covers again google translated it from Norwegian to English.
The simple answer to this answer is sympathy, tons of it in fact, a sympathy tsunami.
Exactly that was expected, but I have a feeling that many people think that this type of victory is not 100% deserved.
Not that they deserve sympathy, that’s exactly what this country needed in May and it still needs, little has changed there since the victory of the Kalush Orchestra.
It is not difficult to agree that the type of song “Stefania” has rarely done well in our beloved competition, so how the result would have been in a “normal” year is not easy to know.
It would probably have been a good position, but I can’t quite see that this would have been a winning song under normal circumstances.
For me it was spot on that it won, this is my favorite song of the year and I would have had it as my favorite without one backdrop from the war.
There is so much emotion and melancholy in the performance that it still brings tears to my eyes when I watch the performance.
The vocals were also strong and I can find myself liking rap from time to time too, so all in all Kalush Orchestra was a worthy winner.
The fact that people in as many as 28 countries gave this 12 points says a lot about how important many thought it was to vote with their heart this year and that’s perfectly fine, there are no rules for which criteria you choose to vote for.
Then we can only hope that Ukrainian hearts didn’t burst too loudly when next year’s competition was moved to the UK.
It is understandable that it happens and our Ukrainian friends are directly in the final, so it will be as if they organized it themselves.
And the position of the only country that has never missed a semi-final qualification will be theirs for a few more years.
