For the seventeenth time I got to hear this year’s MGP songs a few days before everyone else, an exceptionally nice tradition that I am very grateful that NRK lets us take part in, I don’t think there are so many other countries where you get that.

For understandable reasons, there is always a small group that gets to hear, because NRK depends on them being able to trust us that we don’t reveal too much of who is involved.

So, I’m not going to do that, but if I were to describe the songs in one word, it would be:

Something I have been calling for for many years and finally I would like to say that the MGP editors deliver properly in that area and it is especially good that the songs that are of a type we rarely hear in MGP seem to be genuine within their genre and not particularly MGP adapted.

Here, I think everyone will be able to find at least one song they really like, if you can’t find it this year, I think that music is simply not your thing or you have a taste in music that is really on the outer edges and then Well, MGP isn’t quite your thing anyway.

Naturally, I didn’t like all the 18 songs we were presented with, but there wasn’t a song that was completely hopeless for my taste, but some of the songs are in a genre that I’ve never quite grasped and what that genre is actually called I don’t know not then I can’t describe it to you either.

But, these songs too will probably find their fans and even though at the time of writing I know which song I would bet money on if I had to bet them today, I am not sure that that song will hijack the ESC ticket to Malmö, there are a handful of songs that I think will be able to fight as the winner, well at least until I’ve seen them on stage, it’s only then that the songs really crystallize, isn’t it.

And the first semi-final is already next weekend, but first the songs will be revealed on Friday, you have reason to rejoice, here will be both familiar faces and exciting newcomers.
