Morten Thomassen wrote over the song in the 17th place at the 2022 Eurovision song contest. He likes the song. ESC Covers (who predicted last place for it) google translated Morten’s article from Norwegian to English.
Some of this year’s songs were only liked by one of the two judging groups our beloved competition has.
Such good support can take you to the final, but unless you get a flurry of votes, you don’t have a change for a decent position in the final.
Whether Marius Bear thinks 17th place was good is not known, what we do know is that he got a little punch in the face when the televoting audience gave him 0 points.
And it’s a bit brutal for those who don’t score points when the telephone votes are read out, the whole of Europe joins in the downfall, luckily he got comfort from British Sam Ryder, sure a good teddy bear hug.
However, the song “Boys Don’t Cry” received some audience votes in the semi-final and a somewhat surprising qualification to the final.
The song itself seems to me to be a lovely little case of a song, performed with a fervor that suited the song like a glove.
Vocally I think it’s within, the biggest point of appeal for me was probably the way the song was presented visually.
It got very dark and with a dark costume, Marius almost disappeared into the picture at times and the little light show he had which probably had some references to the music video gave us TV viewers little to remember.
Such really low-key shows are obviously to the taste of the professional jury and then we get such incidents where a song is only liked by a jury group.
Our Swiss friends have struggled quite a bit to qualify for the final, but have had a few good years now and if the rumors are to be believed, next year they will also choose an artist rather than having a national final, I hope they choose something good next year as well.
