WHY DID UMAMI TSUNAMI ENDED IN 9TH PLACE?

Morten Thomassen is looking at the the results of the 9 finalists in the 2023 Norwegian Eurovision selection and giving reasons why some ended low and others high. ESC Covers google translated the post from Norwegian to English.

You actually have to look further for nice and polite boys than Kristian, Kyle and Magnus, and if they represent Norwegian youth in general, you have little to complain about in that particular area.

Unfortunately, few points are awarded for behavior in the MGP and since someone had to settle for last place, it was these guys.

A bit strange perhaps they came in 7th place both with the jury and the people, but overall they still finished last, precisely because those who were behind them in these polls did so much better in the opposite voting group.

But, when you only land just the right number of points in both jury departments, you quickly end up far down the list and with a margin of only 2 points, Umami Tsunami came last this year.

K-pop is the name of the type of music they performed and it’s super popular all over the world I’ve heard, but as with so much music that reaches popular heights pundits aren’t as enthusiastic about such music.

That might explain the somewhat lackluster reception from the jury, I was a little more surprised that the people didn’t take more of this song.

I think the guys did well on stage and what they may have lacked in stage experience they made up for with energy and charm.

Singing such fast songs is always a challenge vocally and you could occasionally hear that it was, but it did not spoil the performance.

Considering the age of those who performed the song “Geronimo”, they have absolutely nothing to be ashamed of and I would like to hear more from them in the future.
