Morten Thomassen ends his report on the 2023 Norwegian Eurovision final with a look at the song that won. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.
To be honest, I thought the voting was going to be a lot more exciting than it turned out, I somehow didn’t see a song going like this.
Now, however, Allesandra only led by 10 points over Atle after the international juries had had their say and the competition was actually quite open at that point.
But, in my defence, it should be said that on Saturday afternoon I said to someone that maybe we are so keen on an exciting vote that we overlook the fact that the same song takes the cake in both jury groups and thus the obvious choice.
When, to my great delight, the international jury came back, it was nice that it agreed with the Norwegian people about which song should be sent to Liverpool.
You avoid a lot of sulking afterwards when that’s not the case, now we stand as strongly as we can when the song “Queen Of Kings” was chosen.
There is little doubt that Allesandra is half Italian and for me that is the thing that makes me hopeful that she can do well in ESC as well.
She oozes youthful confidence without it being overpowering and she has the right attitude to handle the heat when she goes to defend the Norwegian colors in May.
The whole performance oozes with a lot of strength and energy, I felt it was a little lacking when she sang in her semi-final, but fortunately it was in place in great abundance when it was the final.
Yes, this song is not terribly innovative in either MGP or ESC, but things that have worked before can work again, but it requires a very good performance by the artist who walks that path.
I have little to complain about Allesandra’s vocals and expect that both it, costumes and the whole performance will get a real facelift when we see her again on stage in Liverpool.
The fans around ESC countries are largely satisfied with the Norwegian choice and since Norway will sing in the first half of the first semi-final, it would not surprise me if young Miss Mele has to open the entire ESC ball this year.
And she’s got the balls for that, so she’ll just look at that particular job as an honor if it were to land on her desk.
At this point, without having heard very many of her competitors, I think we can climb a few notches up in terms of placement compared to last year.
In any case, it will be fun to follow Allesandra on this journey.
