lkka Johannes Lipsanen (born September 24, 1942), commonly known by his stage name Danny, is a Finnish singer and guitarist. Still active, Danny’s singing career is one of the longest in Finland, spanning over more than 50 years. He has recorded many evergreen hit songs. And now at the age of 78 he is one of the 7 finalists in the Finnish Eurovision selection. To celebrate this achievement, ESC Covers has decided to highlight around 15 songs Danny has recorded over his long career, most covers – after all this is a website focusing on the covering of songs. The second song of Danny is a solo release, covering the song (IS THIS THE WAY TO) AMARILLO, originally by British singer Tony Christie. Tony was in the British Eurovision selection in the 70’s with QUEEN OF THE MARDI GRAS. Danny covered the Tony Christie song in Finnish but kept the title as AMARILLO.

ONS LIEFLINGE – RUDI & CHARNE
Ten or so years ago, Rudi Claase started the ONS LIEFLINGE concept – a male-female duo. His first female duet partner was CORLEA and they brought out two CD’s. Once they parted ways, Rudi brought in ZITA and one CD was made. Their ways parted as well and then he teamed up with CHARNE and this is their first CD. It is a double CD with CD 1 featuring Afrikaans songs and CD 2 featuring English songs.
On the English CD is two EUROVISION covers. The first is COME WHAT WAY, the winning Eurovision song from Luxembourg 1972 which Vicky Leandros sang as Apres toi in French. The second is IN LOVE WITH YOU,the Dutch 1984 entry which Maribelle sang as Ik hou van jou in Dutch. Both songs have been covered several times before – both in English and in Afrikaans.
There are also two EURO related songs on the CD – I HAVE A DREAM of ABBA and WE’RE GONNA STAY TOGETHER of Vicky Leandros and Tony Christie.
The ONS LIEFLINGE is a good concept but not all songs in the double CD have been made to be sung in duet.
SECOND GAME FOR POINTS
The United Kingdom has realized they are selecting the correct entries for Eurovision and have asked fans now to come with suggestions. One of the ideas is to again to look at an OLDIE like Engelbert Humperdick and Bonnie Tyler to make a come back to their careers.
Now you as fan have to tell them if there are OLDIES they could look at and who they never even should consider. List between 3 and 5 such artists.
I will have a look at one male singer, one female singer and one group.
TONY CHRISTIE had a great run of success in the 70’s and he has a good voice and if he gets a chance with a song similar to I DID WHAT I DID FOR MARIA, I think he could be considered.
SUZI QUATRO had some great hits in the 70’s composed by NICKY CHINN and MIKE CHAPMAN like SHE’S IN LOVE WITH YOU so that is someone I would look at given the correct song, she is a MAYBE.
BAY CITY ROLLERS – they caused phandemonoum around the world in their distinctive outfits but could they do it in Eurovision? I do not think so, so they are a definite NO NO.
