Eurovision Song Contest 2016 {copyright: EBU/www.eurovision.tv}
This week has seen a lot of activity in the world of the Eurovision Song Contest. The EBU have confirmed there will be 43 nations competing in the 2016 event in Stockholm. We see the return of Australia, Bulgaria, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Ukraine.
Germany confirmed the withdrawal of their offer to Xavier Naidoo to represent them in Sweden.
FYR Macedonia confirm that Kaliopi will once again represent them at Eurovision.
Bosnia-Herzegovina will be represented by Dalal Midhat Talakić, Fuad Backović-Deen and Ana Rucner. Deen represented his country in the 2004 Eurovision Song Contest in Turkey.
Germany have internally selected Xavier Naidoo to represent them at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest in Sweden. There will be a national final on 18 February where Xavier will perform six songs. Songwriters and producers have been invited to prepare their submissions now.
Xavier is an established soul and r’n’b performer in Germany. He has had many hits in his home country including the number one song Ich kenne nichts (das so schön ist wie du) in 2003. You can see the official video for that song below.
OGAE Rest of the world will send one inclusive vote to OGAE International to be published first on the OGAE website but because we have several individual countries inside R O W, we have allowed them to vote as a country as well and we will publish such votes if we receive a voting picture from such a country. We got the first such voting picture, from our members in COSTA RICA and here is how these members have voted.
It is GERMANY now and their 2009 entry MISS KISS KISS BANG, originally sung by ALEX SWINGS, OSCAR SINGS. The South African cover has an international connection with PATRICIA LEWIS doing it in duet with American celebrity DAVID HASSELHOFF. This is quite interesting as David had several number one hits in Austria.
