ABBA 50 YEARS IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS – Song 42 The way old friends do

ABBA has been in the music business for 50 years. To celebrate that happy event, INFE Ireland and INFE South Africa are hosting the ABBA TOP 50. We’ll be posting what we think are the 50 best ABBA songs in alphabetical order. Enjoy!

EK LEWE – ANNELI VAN ROOYEN

On Saturday 25 July 2020 ESC COVERS will launch the COVER2COVER competition. In category one are 14 songs by South African artists that are covers of EUROVISION songs (actual entries or selection songs or Eurovision related because of the original artist who was an entry at Eurovision or by the composers who had written a Eurovision entry). We will list all 14 in the next days, the Afrikaans cover plus the original song.

The eighth song  is EK LEWE by ANNELI VAN ROOYEN  plus the original song JOANA by ROLAND KAISER.

This is not an actual Eurovision entry but some of the composers of the song had written songs for several Eurovision selection songs.

LIKE OLD FRIENDS COMPETITION

The next competition is about the ABBA song THE WAY OLD FRIENDS DO which was covered in Afrikaans many years ago, originally by Anneli van Rooyen. Several other artists covered it as well, and one of the most recent is by BRAVO, a 4 man band. Bravo actually toured in Spain some years ago and performed there at Spanish holiday resorts and got good reviews from the crowd when they sang Abba songs.

In order to win copies of the single SOOS OU VRIENDE (like old friends) by BRAVO, you must tell us which Eurovision artist you would like to be friends with – doing things together – maybe a long holiday or just hand out at the movies.

Rebecca Mikaelsson, a graphic artist from Stockholm, Sweden once again did a beautiful cover for this. I like her work a lot, you cannot help but notice the covers and that is so important in the music business.
