Greta Salóme to sing ‘Hear Them Calling’ for Iceland at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest

Greta Salóme will fly the Icelandic flag at the 2016 Eurovision Song Contest after winning the 2016 Söngvakeppnin with her song Hear Them Calling. She competed against five more acts to earn the title. The six acts competing were –

1. Greta Salóme – Hear Them Calling
2.Hjörtur Traustason & Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir – I Promised You Then
3.Karlotta Sigurðardóttir – The Eye Of The Storm
4.Þórdís Birna Borgarsdóttir & Guðmundur Snorri Sigurðarson – Ready To Break Free
5.Elísabet Ormslev – Á ný
6.Alda Dís Arnardóttir – Now

The first round of voting was split between jury and televoting resulting in a super final between Greta Salóme and Alda Dís Arnardóttir. Then total televoting decided the winner.

Iceland: Three more acts to the final

The second semi-final in Iceland saw three more acts make it to the final of the 2016 Söngvakeppnin. Six acts competed and they were –

  1. Þórdís Birna Borgarsdóttir & Guðmundur Snorri Sigurðarson – Spring yfir heiminn
  2. Erna Mist & Magnús Thorlacius – Ótöluð orð
  3. Helgi Valur Ásgeirsson – Óvær
  4. Elísabet Ormslev – Á ný
  5. Pálmi Gunnarsson – Ég leiði þig heim
  6. Alda Dís Arnardóttir – Augnablik

The voting was televoting only. The acts that did not make it to the final have a second chance with a wildcard draw. The three qualifiers were –

  • Alda Dís Arnardóttir 
  • Elísabet Ormslev
  • Þórdís Birna Borgarsdóttir & Guðmundur Snorri Sigurðarson

Iceland: 2016 Söngvakeppnin – First semi-final – Three acts to the final

Iceland held the first of 2016 Söngvakeppnin national selection semi-finals last night. Six acts performed and three progressed to the final.

The six acts and songs and composers were –

  1. Greta Salóme – Raddirnar (Greta Salóme Stefánsdóttir)
  2. Hjörtur Traustason & Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir – Hugur minn er (Þórunn Erna Clausen)
  3. Ingólfur Þórarinsson – Fátækur námsmaður (Ingólfur Þórarinsson)
  4. Band Eva – Ég sé þig (Sigríður Eir Zophoniasardóttir & Jóhanna Vala Höskuldsdóttir)
  5. Karlotta Sigurðardóttir – Óstöðvandi (Kristinn Sigurpáll Sturluson, Ylva Persson, Linda Persson & Karlotta Sigurðardóttir)
  6. Sigga Eyrún – Kreisí (Karl Olgeirsson & Sigríður Eyrún Friðriksdóttir)

The results were decided by televoting and three acts went forward to the final. The three acts that did not make it have a chance still through the wildcard entry.

The three acts progressing to the final are –

  • Greta Salóme 
  • Karlotta Sigurðardóttir 
  • Hjörtur Traustason & Erna Hrönn Ólafsdóttir
