Morten Thomassen from Norway started reported on the final positions of the 37 entries in the 2023 Eurovision song contest. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.
This is a blog entry and represents only writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.
Some artists win their national final with flying colors and big cheers and go to the international competition with the whole nation behind them, well almost everyone, some may have voted for a different song.
While others win in a less convincing way, many believe that the wrong song won and that something dirty happened behind the scenes that caused the song that won to do exactly that.
This mess had half-Bulgarian and half-Polish which was the country Blanka sang for brought in their luggage to Liverpool.
Add a troublesome stamp that she was not really the great vocalist for the song “Solo”, you can feel small for much less than this.
But, the lady had definitely practiced and managed a number where she didn’t challenge herself too much vocally, so she landed quite safely in that area and since the song was of the tropical sugary type, she had a performance that suited it very well that description.
Not unexpectedly, it was her suitor who went home the best with the audience, she came all the way up to third place in her semi-final and then, as I said, fell all the way down to 19th place in the final, and that is probably mostly due to the fact that the juries only thought she deserved a total of 12 points where half of these came from the neighboring country Ukraine, a country where the people otherwise thought this was the best song of the evening, so good neighbors are certainly the thing in ESC when you want to collect points.
A whopping 81 out of a total of 93 points came from the people and they probably enjoyed this summery song with a group of beautiful young people who had definitely followed me in the charmer-on-TV hours and thus made this a pleasant few minutes for us who watched.
The song was of the type that possibly goes all fourteen out of the dozen and you can see that Blanka doesn’t quite have the stamina to hold it all the way in, it slows down a bit and becomes a bit strenuous towards the end of the song.
Our Polish friends have not yet reached the 50% qualification rate since the semi-finals took place in 2005 and I expect them to work towards getting there and bet on a new final place next year.

Blanka’s performance in Liverpool was way better than in the National Selection.
