Interview: Aldo Blaga (Selecţia Naţională 2022 Romania)

Aldo Blaga will soon take part in the Selecţia Naţională 2022 in Romania with the song, Embers (Ylva & Linda Persson, Rickard Bonde Truumeel, Charlie Mason and John Matthews).

Aldo took time out to speak to ESC Covers –

1. Congratulations on making it to the Eurovision selection. Could you tell us something about your song?

Thank you sooo much! I’m so happy and honoured to be again (after 2019) in the Semi-finals! ‘Embers’ – Well, while it’s not my song, I think it chose me. When I first listened to it, it was arranged for a female voice so it was quite a reach and it suffered quite a transformation but I think the way it sounds now is the way it was meant to sound. It really is a power ballad, and the message is pure poetry. I can spend all day talking about what the message of the song tells me, but I love to read comments and find out what the song and lyrics “speak” to the average listener. As with any art work, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

2. Could you tell us something about your singing career so far?

My singing career started well over 15 years ago. I’ve been in many competitions in Romania (The Voice – 2011, X Factor 2016, Eurovision National Final 2019) and I’ve had over 500 concerts at private and public venues in many countries including Italy, USA, Germany, UK. I’ve got an album released in 2017 called “About Love” that is available to download on all major music platforms. You can go check it out – it’s a 12 song album consisting of songs that portray months of a year, each month speaking about one step of a relationship – from the beginning to the very end.

3. Who are your musical influences?

I think my biggest influence is myself because I’m such a critic and always try to better my performances. But to name a few of the greats that set me up on my road, I would mention Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Queen, The Rolling Stones, Scorpions, Beatles, Elton John, U2, Sting, Micheal Buble, Michael Jackson and many, many more.

4. Do you have a favourite Eurovision song?

It’s a tie between quite a few, of which I’ll mention “Rise Like A Phoenix”, “Undo”, “Arcade” and of course, the recently successful “Yodel It!”

5. What would it mean to you to represent your country at Eurovision?

It would be the greatest single thing that has ever happened in my life and career since I started doing, basically, what I enjoy the most.

You can hear Embers below.
