South African singer Colé van dais congratulates the Eurovision song contest winner with a special message from Sir Cliff Richard!
In 2011 popular South African singer and independent artist, Colé van dais met up with Roy van der Merwe, the president of Eurovision South Africa, who has attended Eurovision since 1993 promoting the covering of Eurovision songs in South Africa with overwhelming results of over 450 covers so far with many hit songs. Cole instantly became a fan and decided to cover Eurovision songs. In 2012 she became well known amongst Eurovision fans and fan clubs when she presented the Eurovision 2nd chance contest that was viewed in over 26 countries. She was then invited to be the guest artist at The Eurovision song contest in 2014 in Copenhagen, Denmark. She traveled with Roy who acted as her manager. She made history by becoming the first officially booked South African artist to perform at this prestige international event at the VEGA club in Copenhagen for 8 nights where she was in concert with the representatives of the 39 participating countries, many of whom have won their country’s selection process while others were picked by their broadcasters.
Colé van dais’s cover versions of ESC songs are enjoyed amongst fans and collectors around the world and in 2015 she won the award for Best International Collaboration (awarded by voices for Charity) for the song Molayo feat. Gbenga Adenuga from Nigeria, sung in Afrikaans and Yoruba.
In 2018 Colé brings ESC songs to South African radio stations with her new album, Colé & friends. She covers ESC songs with local and international artists, some Eurovision song contest winners including Katrina Leskanich (X Katrina & the waves, UK) and De Jorans (Joran Steinhauzer, Latvia) with this fun project singing
in different languages including Spanish, Russian, Latvian, Afrikaans, Zulu, Tsonga, Xhosa, Danish, and English. Very exotic languges indeed for Eurovision fans as well as new listeners who enjoy listening to adult contemporary pop music.
Now for a surprise and gift to her fans!
To celebrate the 50th anniversary of one of her favourite songs, Congratulations by Sir Cliff Richard, since it was the entry for the United Kingdom at the Eurovision song contest and came second after La la la from Spain, Colé and her music producer Rick Wolf had a bit of fun in the studio and made a mashup version of the song, which is also a surprise message for the winning country of the Eurovision song contest 2018! A mashup is ‘a song or composition created by blending two or more pre-recorded songs.’
In this special fun version of Congratulations Colé sings in English and Portuguese (as Lisbon in Portugal is this year’s hosting country of the event) and Cliff Richard’s original voice is in English. Mixed by singer/ musician/producer – Rick Wolf (who originally sang the number 1 hit 70s song ‘My baby loves love’ – by The white planes) this songs is a great sing-a-long for any Eurovision fan to celebrate the winner of ESC in 2018!
