We must admit that before starting this series, this song was totally unknown to ESC Covers. Waterloo & Robinson from Austria participated in the 1976 with MY LITTLE WORLD but this is probably their only song composed by Ralph Siegel.
Rex Gildo had his first hit in the German charts in 1960. In 1973 he released FIESTA MEXICANA which went to number 5 on the German chart but stayed there 29 weeks – the longest any of his many songs stayed on the charts.
Next up in our look at 100 Ralph Siegel songs is one of his older songs – GOODBYE MAMA – Ireen Sheer did it in German and it was a hit in South Africa in English by Alan Garrity
Nicole teamed up with Trio to sing ICH HAB DICH DOCH LIEB. There is an Afrikaans cover by husband and wife Phillip & Ella Kotze but we cannot find it on Youtube. They call it EK HET JOU SO LIEF.
When we started the project of picking 100 Ralph Siegel songs we looked at all 500 plus we have on CD/vinyl and then selected the 100 to feature in posts. Unfortunately song 21 we cannot find on youtube at all – really have no idea why TINGEL TANGEL MANN by HARMONY FOUR is not there since it was a selection song in 1984 in Germany.
Karel Gott who is from the Czech republic, represented Austria at the 1968 Eurovision song contest. His career spans over many years and he has sung in several languages but his German songs are our favourites. This song, composed by Ralph Siegel we regard as his best ever.
In position 19 we get the song SING SANG SONG by the Les Humpfries singers. 1976 entry for Germany and probably the weakest song Ralph has ever written for Eurovision. It is totally repetitive.
The 18th song is by Michael Holm. He had several big hits in South Africa like Mademoiselle Ninette, Mandocino and Dancing in the sun. This song is probably the only song of Michael composed by Ralph Siegel.
