Belarusian broadcaster BTRC has been suspended by the EBU and therefore Belarus is not allowed to participate in Eurovision events. Let’s take a look at what Belarus has brought to the Eurovision Song Contest since 2004.
The Belarusian national final consisted of two shows: a semi-final and a final in which fifteen songs participated.
The semi-final took place on 15 December 2006 at the Republic Palace in Minsk. Public televoting first selected the song Angel Mechty performed by Dmitry Koldun to qualify to the final. A jury of experts then selected an additional two songs: How Long performed by Diana Gurtskaya and S.U.P.E.R. S.T.A.R. performed by The Project.
The final took place on 22 January 2007 at the Sports Palace in Minsk. The votes of jury members made up of music professionals selected the song Work Your Magic, performed by Dmitry Koldun and written by Karen Kavaleryan and Philip Kirkorov, as the winner.
At Eurovision, Dmitry Koldun dropped his first name and performed as Koldun in the semi-final of the Eurovision Song contest 2007.
The Belarusian entry finished 4th in the semi-final, and therefore qualified for the final where the entry finished in 6th place with 145 points, which is the best result for Belarus to date.
