ESC Covers have received the following release from the Portuguese Junior Eurovision press team.
Portugal has achieved its best result ever at the Junior Eurovision Song Contest, finishing in 2nd place among 17 competing countries. The contest was won by Georgia.
Victoria Nicole’s performance of Esperança earned widespread acclaim from juries and audiences, setting a new milestone for Portugal in the competition. The contest was won by Georgia, whose captivating entry garnered the top spot.
Victoria Nicole, a 14-year-old singer-songwriter, was the only contestant this year to perform a song entirely composed and written by herself.
Her bilingual song (Portuguese and Spanish), Esperança, is a heartfelt anthem about resilience, with production support from Nininho Vaz Maia and Bárbara Tinoco.
During her week in Madrid, Victoria reflected on the experience: “What I enjoyed most this week was to step on to Caja Magica stage and all the friends I made here, specially my Albanian friend Nikol Çabeli”.
Portugal’s delegation also included Júlia Machado, the 2023 Junior Eurovision representative, who returned as the spokesperson for Portugal’s jury votes. The voting system, which combined 50% votes from professional juries and 50% from a global digital audience on jesc.tv, highlighted the impact of Victoria’s inspiring performance.
The contest could be watched worldwide via RTP 1, RTP África, RTP Internacional and RTP Play, with Nuno Galopim and Carina Jorge’s comments.
This 2nd-place finish marks a historic achievement for Portugal, surpassing its previous best of 8th place in 2022 with Nicolas Alves. RTP and the Portuguese delegation celebrate this moment as a testament to the talent and dedication of young Portuguese artists like Victoria Nicole.
