COUNTDOWN OF EUROVISION 2024 RESULTS – POSITION 5

ESC Covers start the Eurovision 2024 countdown from position 37 to the top place. We are using the review of Morten Thomassen from Norway. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

This is a blog entry and represents only writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.

The three countries in the final that started with the letter I finished right after each other on the results list and it was perhaps not so surprising that it was Israel’s Eden Golan who drew the longest result straw of the three countries.

After a convincing victory in their semi-final, there was undoubtedly a lot of excitement about how this country would do in the final and one must be honest to say that one feared for the survival of the competition if Israel had gone on to win.

Despite a total of fifteen 12-points and a second place with the people, Miss Golan’s song was so badly received by the juries that the overall ranking was actually worse than the year before, and that in itself was probably a little surprising for many.

There is little doubt that many people voted for the country of Israel and not the Israeli song, in itself that is not illegal and since it was shown that it could happen, one can wonder if those who did not want an Israeli victory voted for someone few countries all the time the songs that came in the top 5 places collected more than 50% of all votes distributed on the final night.

The tuning aside, there is little doubt that despite strong pressure and a not too welcoming attitude from the audience in the hall, Eden managed to perform her song obviously quite unaffected by everything around her and she managed together with her dancers to give us that the message one must assume the song had.

Fairly flawless vocals, even if there are a few small missteps at times, so I can only say that I am impressed and in that sense, this country got a well-deserved place on the results list.

So time will tell if this country’s presence in our beloved competition will create as much noise next year, only the future can tell, they are entered.

  1. I love Eden Golan’s “Hurricane” (it was my winner in 2024). It’s a pity this song appeared in the period influenced by politics and that’s why it finished lower than it had deserved. On the other hand, would have this song been created if there hadn’t been those political ‘issues’?
