COUNTDOWN OF EUROVISION 2024 RESULTS – POSITION 15

ESC Covers start the Eurovision 2024 countdown from position 37 to the top place. We are using the review of Morten Thomassen from Norway. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

This is a blog entry and represents only writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.

Our Cypriot friends have obviously realized that danceable pop with a woman who has the qualities to do it on stage is the thing so for the umpteenth time it might seem like they went that route to ESC and as if that wasn’t enough, loan of artists who are actually based in Australia also seems to be a thing.

Even though Silia Kapsis is only 17 years old, it turns out that she has been performing since she was 4 years old and in a way she can be called too experienced and you can probably say that what she showed on stage felt exactly that, usually I was skeptical that such young artists would bite into such a big apple in terms of performance, but this lady had what it took.

This girl was actually given the honor of opening this year’s ESC ball and that gave her a safe and decent sailing to the final where she got a little better pay from the people than from the jury and not unexpectedly 28% of the points came from Greece and perhaps a little surprisingly, the the Australian people were not as enthusiastic, she only got half as many points from them as from the Greeks.

One thing young Miss Kapsis must have, she put to shame my previously expressed skepticism that she would be able to perform her song well, but with that said, she does not reach the level of the artist who took Cyprus to second place in 2018 had.

There is a lot missing, both vocally not least and perhaps to an even greater extent, having the right energy and attitude for a song like this, I guess she can’t quite convince me that I’m a bad liar, it gets a bit tricky and that’s probably due to her age, I think, she simply doesn’t have enough years behind her to perform such a song convincingly, but by all means, what she did wasn’t bad either.

Should one hope that this island nation with the most entries without winning might soon be able to find an artist who actually has a Cypriot passport, it might have been time soon?
