COUNTDOWN IN EUROVISION 2024 RESULTS – POSITION 37

ESC Covers start the Eurovision 2024 countdown from position 37 to the top place. We are using the review of Morten Thomassen from Norway. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

Time to start the annual countdown series and it starts as usual with the country that got the fewest points in their semi-final.

3 lousy points was all the Icelandic ESC queen Hera Bjørk managed to manage and with that she finished last in this year’s competition, completely in conflict with my personal taste, but those who voted obviously didn’t care much about that.

Now our Icelandic friends fell into a trap quite like many countries have fallen into before, a former ESC participant stands up again in the national final or is selected internally and on paper it is probably quite a sensible choice.

But, fortunately, former ESC participants are not awarded bonus points when they line up, so even if the fans welcome them with open arms and great cheers, it is “ordinary people” who account for most of the votes and they are not necessarily as friendly.

For me, Hera got a lot of nostalgia points, but the same points were not fixed for so many others, I think most people thought that this song was rather bland and simply boring compared to the others in the same semi-final.

I also feel that the charm that I know this lady from Iceland has didn’t quite come out and vocally it feels a bit strained at times and the show itself, sparkling as it is, didn’t quite stand out either and I’m probably afraid that many people took a pee break.

Because standing up on a platform with choristers stomping-dancing-walking next to it feels a bit old-fashioned when the calendar shows 2024, I should think, and with so many negative factors against it, the final place was pretty unlikely, in other words.

We will never know how far this island nation could have come up on the results list if they had sent that artist of Palestinian origin, however, they have now had two years in a row without a final place and simply need to sharpen up soon, I think.
