POSITION 9 IN THE 2023 EUROVISION – AUSTRALIA

Morten Thomassen from Norway started reported on the final positions of the 37 entries in the 2023 Eurovision song contest. ESC Covers google translated it from Norwegian to English.

This is a blog entry and represents only writer Morten Thomassen’s own views.

The longest-travelling participants Voyager from Australia actually won this country’s third victory in their semi-final and, in the same way as Kate Miller-Heidke back in 2019, they ended up in 9th place in the final.

In other words, winning the “easy” semi-final doesn’t always pay off as well when you get to the final, as many remember our own Alexander Rybak did end even lower back in 2018.

Alex, Ask, Danny, Scott and Simone, who performed the song “Promise”, have actually been trying to get to the international final since 2016, and there is a possibility that they had made each other a promise never to give up on that dream and This year it became a reality.

This song struck a chord with the jury, because with the 130 points they got from them, they were all the way up to 6th place, but only a lukewarm 21 points from the European people sent them a few notches down on the results list at the very end, but in 8 attempts, this landed a total of 5 top-10 positions so every reason to be proud of it.

The 80s vibes lay thick over the stage with a car and stuff, so they managed to convey these vibes in a great way, perhaps no wonder the juries liked what they saw and heard, Impeccable vocals and tons of energy we were also served and Don’t you think they threw some growling into this soup?

The fact that the people were not terribly impressed by what they saw is perhaps due to the fact that the song was a bit messy and had a bit too many elements to find exactly the thing that made you want to vote for these jovial people from down under and probably also feel that the group feeling got a little lost in the performance, they stood a little too much in their respective places on stage and that might drag some people down.

The agreement Australian TV has with the EBU to be part of the ESC expired after this final, so whether we will see this country again next year has not been decided yet, time will show.
