EUROVISION HIGHLIGHTS FOR ESC COVERS FROM 1970 TO 2023 – 1972

ESC COVERS started to look at 1 or 2 highlights from every Eurovision song contest from 1970 to 2023. This may be an actual entry, a cover from that year or just a specific artist.

Today it is 1972 we look at and the winner turned out to be LUXEMBOURG. They got a Greek singer VICKY LEANDROS to sing a French song APRES TOI and it won and became a classic.

Vicky recorded it in English as COME WHAT MAY and had a number 1 hit in South Africa.

In South Africa the song holds some kind of record, it was covered in Afrikaans numerous times, but the three covers that did the best sales wise, all had different Afrikaans lyrics and were also recorded in 3 different decades.

The first happened in the 70’s with JANITA CLAASSEN singing it as WIE SAL WEET.

The second happened in the 80’s with BLES BRIDGES singing it as GLO IN DIE LEWE.

The third happened in the 90’s with PATRICIA LEWIS singing it as JY’S DIE EEN.

Nicole, the Eurovision winner of 1982 from Germany, covered it in German as DANN KAMST DU.
