Gianluca Cilia wins the 2019 L-Għanja tal-Poplu Żgħażagħ in Malta

Gianluca Cilia was the popular representative for Malta at the 2017 Junior Eurovision Song Contest in Georgia. Now he has had further success by winning the 2019 L-Għanja tal-Poplu Żgħażagħ festival with his song Ħaġar Qim.

Ħaġar Qim is composed by  Emil Calleja Bayliss (who wrote the 2017 JESC song for Gianluca and also for Ela Mangion in 2018) and Philip Vella (co-composer of Malta Eurovision entries from 2000, 2002, 2004, 2007, 2008 and 2017).

All the songs from the contest were performed with the Malta Concert Orchestra (directed by Joe Brown and Paula Abela).

Ħaġar Qim is about the historical temples with the same name that date back to 3600 to 3200BC.

Ela Mangion, who represented Malta at the 2018 Junior Eurovision was a backing vocalist for Gianluca together with his sister, Giulia Cilia, and local artist Ilenia Camilleri. Glen Vella (2011 ESC Malta) and Nadia Vella from Vocalbooth Studios guided and coached the team.

Christabelle, who represented Malta at the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, was a special guest and she made the presentation of the trophy to Gianluca.
