Robert Overeem from Amsterdam, the Netherlands has probably the most complete Eurovision collection in the world. Roy van der Merwe of ESC Covers saw it recently during a visit to Amsterdam. For him it was too much to take in at once. Robert is also a singer of these Eurovision songs, and he especially love those from the 60’s.
He was invited to give a performance in Italy and he has just send us a report.
The show was at a marble company near Livorno that organized the yearly Christmas dinner party for their employees and family. The board invited me to come and sing. It was a big success. I sang 11 Eurovision songs in 9 different languages. All from the 60’s except Volare 1958 and De Mallemolen 1977. The public was all Italian, who mostly all only spoke Italian. It was funny how they digested all those foreign languages. I expressed my love for all these different languages and the diversity of all those cultures but also being proud of the cooperation between all of us. Proud that Eurovision promotes and realizes this cooperation between nations already for 63 years. All songs I sang are all evergreens in their own country. Not sung anymore by their original singers, I pay a tribute to these lovely songs that I already listen to for more than 25 years.
This is the 11 songs I performed
1. Nous les amoureux – Luxembourg 1961 – French – winner
2. Laiskotellen – Finland 1964 – Finnish
3. Quando quando quando – Italy 1962 preselection song – English
4. Dansevise – Denmark 1963 – Danish – winner
5. De Mallemolen – Netherlands 1977 – Dutch
6. Romantica – Italy 1960 – Italian
7. En gång i Stockholm – Sweden 1963 – Swedish
8. Voi voi – Norway 1960 – Norwegian
9. Estando contigo – Spain 1961 – Spanish
10. Volare – Italy 1958 – Italian
11. Al di la – Italy 1961 – Italian
